I heard the telltale sound—not quite like a jackhammer, more like a regular hammer rapping against something rapidly. Anytime I have my camera with me and I hear this, I spring to action. It might not be long before the woodpecker flies away, and then who knows if we will meet again? This one hung around for a little while, I also didn't have my telephoto lens attached,, so I had to frantically change my lens and still had time to get in close. The woodpecker kept at it for a few seconds more then like a flash it was gone.
