Hi everyone and welcome to my planet so today I will be writing on adolescent and young adults health.
There are many factors affecting adolescent and young adults health and that includes;
1 Mental health
2 Alcohol and drug misuse
3 Environmental health
4 malnutrition
5 HIV
So I will love to start with the mental health
- Mental health
Depression and anxiety are the top cause of illness and disability among adolescents and young adults, Living in humanitarian and fragile setting can increase risk of developing mental problem. Suicide is the third cause of death. Violence, poverty, humiliation and feeling devalued can increase the risk of developing mental health problem
Alcohol and misuse of drugs
Drinking alcohol among adolescent and young adults is a major concern in many countries, and cannabis is the most widely used psychoactive drug among young people.
Alcohol and drug use in adolescent and young adults is associated with neurocognitive alterations which can to behavioral, emotional, social and academic problems in later life
Environmental health many of the main causes of mortality in adolescents and young adults have strong links to their environment which includes unintentionally injuries and infectious disease young adults and adolescent are at high risk of environmental pollution and environmental hazards due to their developmental immature system and physiology.The primary environmental pollution and hazards affecting the health's of adolescent and young adults include;
1 air pollution
2 climate change
3 chemical and heavy metals
Malnutrition
Malnutrition refers to deficiency, excesses or imbalance in a person intake of nutrients.
malnutrition address three broad groups of condition which includes;
1 under nutrition
2 micro nutrients
3 over weight
Undernutrition is a deficiency of calories of one or more essential nutrients. which includes; wasting
(low weight for height) stunting(low height for age) and under weight (low weight for age.
Micro nutrients includes micro nutrients deficiencies that is, lack of important vitamins and minerals or micro nutrients excess.
Over weight
Obesity affect adolescent as well as young adult, many factors can contribute to excess weight gain. which includes eating pattern, sleep routine, and physical activity level.
Obesity and diet- related non communicable disease includes; heart disease, stroke, diabetes and some cancers which usually leads to death.
HIV
Hiv remains a global public health issues which is mainly transmitted through sexual activity and sharing of sharp objects.
Hiv have claimed millions of lives especially that of the Young adults and adolescent
conditions and behaviors that put people at higher risks of contacting hiv includes; having condomless anal or vaginal sex,
having another sexually transmitted infection (STI) which includes herpes, Chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis,and bacterial vaginosis.
Sharing contaminated sharp objects such as syringes, needles and razors
receiving unsafe injection, blood transfusion, tissue transplantation and medical procedures that involves unsterile cutting or piercing
young adults and adolescent should know that there's no cure for HIV Antiretroviral therapy is only use to stop the virus from replicating in the body it does not cure hiv infection. It only allows the person immune system to get stronger and fight other infection
