I was scared to death

A lot of frightening things are happening in the world today which are far beyond human understanding. No where is safe again, if natural disaster doesn't happen, disaster caused by human beings will happen.

I have heard stories of how some people sit at the comfort of their sitting rooms and stray bullets went in and kill them or how a man was relaxing in his veranda and a trailer that had break failure found its way to his compound and knocked him down or how a container fell on a car in traffic or while in motion and kill those that are in the car it fell on.

Lots of strange things are happening out there and one gets to imagine what's the meaning of life with all these strange occurrences. So everything about life is a risk, whether staying at home or stepping into the road, all is a risk and it's even risky not to take risk.

Luckily for me, I haven't had a near-death experience while traveling on the road so far, the divine has been so good to me and I'm very grateful for His divine protection. But I've seen a lot of accidents on the road while traveling. I know everyone always prays for safety but accidents are unexpected occurrences that can happen at any time or anywhere and when it happens nothing can be done than just to accept the outcome with fate.

Like I've said earlier, I haven't had any near-death experience due to a road accident but I've come across brutal fighting on the road that leads to loss of properties and injuries to lives.

While I was in the university, I stayed off campus, so I go to school everyday from home and before I could get home I have to take two different buses, the first bus will be from school to post office then from post office to my house, after dropping at the main road I will trek home, just few minutes walk.

On a fateful day, I was walking home and I saw people running towards me from the direction I was heading to. I stopped for a while to observe what was happening and my phone rang, when I looked at who was calling me, it was my Mom. She told me not to come home now that there is a dispute at the market not far away from my area.

Before I could say a word to her, I heard a gun shot; I screamed and ran back to the main road. There was commotion everywhere and I saw shop owners closing their stores, my heart started beating fast and I was frightened, everyone was just banging their doors anyhow. I ran towards a warehouse and as the man was about shutting the door I screamed for help, I couldn't run around because I don't know what might happen if I went further.

Luckily the man pitied me and shouted 'come quickly', I ran with all my strength and lay low in the warehouse with other people that I met there. We were there for about 15 minutes till we heard the police patrol. No one dare to go out because we were all afraid, after another 5 minutes the owner of the warehouse moved slowly out to check if people are already moving on the street again.

After his confirmation, we all thanked him and didn't waste time than rush out. I hurried home because I didn't know if the fight would still resume, Mom shouted for joy when she saw me at the door and I was also happy that my family was safe too.

It was the following day we heard that the fight was between Okada (motorcycle) and Keke (tricycle) association in the market, though no life was lost but there were several injuries and some people lost their wares in the clash.

Thankfully normalcy was restored to the market after it was shut down for 3 days and the two transport associations were fined for disrupting the peace of the society.

Till we left the area to our new site, nothing of such happened again, but I can never forget the traumatizing experience that day. That was the first time such a frightening event will meet me outside my house, I couldn't believe I can run like that...lolz....I was so scared to death.

Thanks for visiting!
