An Adventure to the Ancient World

in #hive-1538508 months ago

I don't think I qualify as an adventurer because I believe that being one requires some level of spontaneity that doesn't quite fit into my style of living. However, if I ever get the chance to go on any adventure, being the history buff that I am, it will definitely be to visit ancient historical sites. My adventure would be centered around touring all the major ancient sites around the world.

While many may consider history a boring subject, I seem to like it a lot, and the simple reason for this is because I've always been fascinated with the accounts and details of events that happened in the past (particularly during ancient times), and anytime I go through these accounts, I tend to feel like I have missed out on being alive during a period of time I like to refer to as the "Golden Age of Humanity." A time when people were more in touch with their soul and spirit, and they expressed themselves through exquisite art, beautiful music, and exotic poetry.

My Adventure

I will start my adventure by visiting Europe, the birthplace of the Renaissance. For context, the Renaissance was a period in European civilization that sparked a revival of and enabled significant advancement in fields such as art, literature, science, and philosophy. It was during this period that inventions like Gutenberg's printing press, eyeglasses, and telescopes were invented. It was also during this period that famous paintings and sculptures like the Mona Lisa, David, Pieta, Sistine Chapel ceiling, creation of Adam, and birth of Venus were made

I am a big fan of medieval Europe (mainly because of the Renaissance), and I believe the closest I'd ever get to having a feel for what it would've been like to live during the days of great men like Botticelli, Niccolò Machiavelli, Donatello, and other prominent Renaissance figures is visiting the places where they lived and died.

I'd really love to visit the sites where great works like Da Vinci's Monalisa, Michelangelo's David, and many others were made. I'd love to walk the same paths they walked and have a feel for, at least to an extent, the very things that might've inspired them to produce such great works. I want to watch the sunset from the eternal city and feel the morning dew fall on my face in the streets of Florence.

As soon as I leave Europe, my next stop will be the burial site of the great Pharaohs of Egypt—the Pyramids.
The pyramids of Egypt are wonders of the ancient world, and even to this day, they are still regarded as architectural masterpieces. But architecture is not the only incredible part of the pyramids. These edifices defy human logic. Till today, we still haven't figured out how they managed to build those kinds of structures with the limited amount of resources available back then.

Sometimes I try to imagine the sheer manpower that building those structures must've required and why they were even built. Why did the ancient Egyptians invest lavishly in burials? Are the Yorubas (from south-west Nigeria) their distant cousins because of their affinity to also spend lavishly on burial ceremonies?
Now that I think of it, my journey to Egypt will probably bring up more questions than answers, but I believe I'd still enjoy it nonetheless.

Other notable sites I'd explore are the Great Wall of China, Stonehenge, and Angkor Wat.

Through this adventure, I hope I'll be able to satisfy my "longing" for the ancient world and finally get a little bit of closure. 😅

If you made it up to this point, thank you very much for reading through. ♥️

Wowwwww! I am impressed by the knowledge you have about the history. The way you have mentioned names along with their speciality speaks of your knowledge prowess.

I am also eager to know about Egyptian culture in the time of pharos. Egypt is one of the most repeated place (word) in Quran. It holds significance with respect to prophets' history. I would love to explore the secrets hiddenin the land.

Yes, Egypt is a very interesting country, and the global influence of their culture and civilization across different spheres of life cannot be overemphasized. I hope you get the chance to visit one day.

Fingers crossed. Hehe

You know I'd make a great travel assistant 😌. Florence is somewhere I've always wanted to go, but for historical purpose though that sounds so good now, it'll be a nice plus but I'll be there for the food and WINE. Just hit me up when you're ready 😌😂.

You mentioned Egypt and immediately the Alchemist came to mind. The gigantic pyramids must be a sight to behold truly. I'd like to see the great sea that parted that other year sha.

Beautiful write-up @monioluwa, you should do this more often. Well done.

You really have such vivid imaginations. I guess these stemmed from your deep interest and knowledge of history. I think all these places are quite interesting and I also found myself agreeing to also wanting to experience these days. I loved the part you wrote "A time when people were more in touch with their soul and spirit, and they expressed themselves through exquisite art, beautiful music, and exotic poetry." I totally agree! I think this would be the main reason why i would love to go! I enjoyed your write up. welldone
