Using the Rules to My Advantage in Splinterlands

In battles in Splinterlands, having a good strategy will make all the difference in the outcome. In this post, I will demonstrate this through a battle I recently had that was very exciting and fun to watch.

See the Battle

This battle took place in the Diamond League and there are 3 rules in it, which are:

Earthquake - In this rule, all monsters that do not have the Flying ability will suffer 2 physical damage at the beginning of the round. This damage starts to be applied from the second round onwards.

Super Sneak - In this rule, all melee monsters will gain the Sneak ability, which means they will be able to attack from any position and will target the opponent's monster positioned in the last position.

Lost Magic - In this rule, neither player can use monsters with magical attacks in battle.

My strategy for the battle was simple. First, I used the summoner Kelya Frendul, who will grant +1 shield and +1 speed to all my monsters. The shield will be very useful in the Earthquake rule because the damage will be dealt first to the shield and not to the health of my monsters. The speed increase will be useful for my monsters to attack first.

Now that I chose my summoner, I went to select my monsters, which for this battle were:

  • Pelacor Bandit - This is a melee monster that has a large amount of attack and speed. It also has the Flying ability, so it will be immune to the Earthquake rule.

  • Xenith Archer - This is a ranged monster that has a low mana cost. It has no abilities, but has a decent amount of attack.

  • Merdaali Guardian - This monster has no attack, but serves as support with its Heal and Repair abilities.

  • Angelic Mandarin - This is a ranged monster that has the Triage ability. It will heal my backline monster that suffered the most damage by 1/3 of its maximum health.

  • Igor Darkspear - This is a ranged monster that has the Stun ability. When Stun is applied to an enemy monster, it will be unable to perform any action for 1 round.

  • Baakjira - This monster has no attack but has very useful abilities such as Void, Slow, Strengthen and Heal. The Void ability makes it take less damage from magic attacks, the Slow ability reduces the speed of enemy monsters by -1, the Strengthen ability increases the life of my monsters by +1 and the Heal ability heals it for 1/3 of its maximum life 1x per round.

Since there is the Super Sneak rule in the battle, I figured my opponent would use some melee cards and that's why I decided to put Baakjira in the last position since it will be able to defend itself from attacks because it has a lot of life and the Heal ability. Another reason I put him in last position is that he would be my last hope if all my monsters were defeated. Since he has the ability Heal, he would be able to survive the damage caused by the Earthquake rule until all enemy monsters were defeated, so it would be a battle of endurance. But it didn't have to come to that because my initial strategy worked and since Baakjira was the one who received most of the attacks, my other cards were able to successfully eliminate my opponent's monsters.

The other star of the battle was Pelacor Bandit. Since he has the ability Flying and a lot of speed, he was able to easily dodge most of the attacks, which made him stay in first position until the end of the battle.

If I had put Baakjira in first position, I probably would have lost the battle, so a good strategy makes all the difference in the result.
