A Visayan Word from one of the Filipino dialects means - to have coffee to feel the heat from the freezing cold in the time of dawn. Often happens when there’s an activity early in the morning. Though a phrase used with a group of people doing the same.

Are you familiar with the mesa de gallo when Christmas is coming? It starts 9 days before the day of Christmas arrives. In our tradition it happens at dawn, a sacrifice like a wake waiting for Jesus Christ to be born. It happens yearly in the month of December. Over the years some Brgy.s and towns no longer consider this kind of tradition. Especially in the Cities where it’s very crowded and maybe some decided to have a mass during the evening instead of dawn.

You know, I live in the province and mostly, the provinces are still commencing this kind of tradition. Despite the hardship of earning money because opportunities are hard to find here. The villagers are asked to donate a little amount, not forced with a bigger amount but only depends how much it could share. The people of the Brgy.s are divided into groups and they’re being called the sponsor of that day’s mass painit.

You could not expect much food, even though coffee is already enough to heat up someone’s body from the freezing cold early in the morning. Everyone is generous because it's the Christmas season. They only not offer coffee but with bread, biscuits, delicacies and many more.

When the mass is almost over, the people who are bringing painit arrives; Ready to serve the people who attend the mass. Of course children are the most happy because there's food. But wouldn’t it be nice seeing there’s a person who is now happy because of the small amount you were honored to give?

When the mass is over, yeah, that’s the time painit are being distributed to everyone fill with joy of the Christmas season.
