Heeeyho Readers! Are you a cycling nerd or just a regular commuter?
The other day I read an article about a real-time MTB tire pressure sensor. It basically reads data from the air valve and sends that info to a Garmin unit. Mind-blowing! Pressure, cadence and speed sensors, power meters, electronic derailleurs, GPS units. It's all fascinating, even for a two-wheeled sausage like myself.
Today's discussion topic at the #cycling community is about that: our most favorite cycling gadgets. It could be anything that involves moving our carcasses forward on two wheels {laughs}.

Some gadgets are not a must as a cycle-tourer and mtb racer myself — i.e. cycling techs such as sensors or the latest super cool Sram electronic derailleurs. Committing to the essentials is my motto. Give me basic tools, a pump, tire repair kit and I'll go around the world. All the rest is for fun.
However, an advanced GPS unit would come in handy not only for its training functions (setting alarms, uploading training plans, sensors etc), but also to complement Strava, which comes to be my most-favorite gadget.
Have you ever heard the phrase: If it's not on Strava, it didn't happen. That's me. Starting Strava is the first task before leaving home. The fun begins after uploading the activity; in the app I can keep track of my trainings, compare times with fellow cyclists, find new routes, follow segments, etc.
I'm a bit of a Strava geek that likes to KOM hunt sometimes (KOM stands for King of the Mountain). This feature lets us compete against other cyclists for different segments. You pass the starting point and go berserk mode until the end. Not gonna lie... my KOM collection diminished greatly after I poked my nose on some dude's territories {laughs}. One day I get my revenge.
Other than that, I use Strava to monitor XCO track sections where I need to improve to stay with the stronger riders. That, unfortunately, is only available for subscribers (which I am).
Another great function is the ability to register your bicycle parts to keep a maintenance log. Whenever you upload an activity, Strava will count the kilometers, making it easy to schedule maintenance and anticipate parts replacements.
Some people say that Strava ruins the joy of simply riding a bicycle. It's a fair point; some people are too egocentric. For me, it's a great addition to the sport, making it my favorite gadget.
Feel free to follow me on Strava, just let me know in the comments: Mr.P Strava
Are you into Strava? What's your favorite cycling gadget?
Peace.
