In the years leading up to the American Civil War, Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man, is kidnapped and sold into slavery. Solomon must fight not only to stay alive but also to preserve his dignity in the face of the cruelty of his master (Michael Fassbender).
This film has been deserving of many praises both by the public and by critics. It started as the favorite at the Oscar Awards with 9 nominations, although it finally only won 3 statuettes (best film, screenplay and supporting actress), and also won the Golden Globe for best dramatic film.
It is a great production, based on a true story, about the tremendous dramatic episodes that were experienced in the United States during the time of slavery. The film has an impressive staging and a magnificent cast that gives moving performances that move, amaze and shake the hardest of hearts.Perhaps there is an excessive display of cruelty, evil and despair that can cause the viewer a certain uneasiness, but the main character also embodies the values of hope and the desire for survival. It is definitely a solid story, very well directed by Steve McQueeny and produced by Brad Pitt.
