It all happened so fast. I was in the kitchen. I looked out the window. I saw her.
She was in a very convenient position to be photographed. Along a branch, stretched out, but at the same time ready to try a jump. The light on her body was even and allowed her bright color to glow in the coolness of the morning.
For a moment, I lost track of time and space; I went limp. In a few seconds I recovered from that inaction and realized that I had the jar of coffee with milk in my hand and also my mouth open, like a jamo (my father would say) and that is: an instrument consisting of a net in the shape of a bag to which a long handle is attached and is used for fishing.
Imagine it.
I jumped like a pen spring. Hurry up! -I said to myself- the camera! 🤷♀
Before I had it in my hands, I tripped over everything in my path, almost lost the little toe of my right foot on a skirting board. Fuck, what a pain, mom (de madre esto), I shouted.
Guess my slanted eyes were already two balls from playing Yaquis (Jackses).
I got to the hallway. Turned on the camera, at least it had the 200mm zoom lens on.
Insert the card again, it said. Fuck, fuck, fuck.
{Me at the limit of stress}
She wasn't going to wait for me anymore.
I turned off my camera, removed and inserted the SD card. Oh, yes, everything in order (I sighed). She rushed off to... I don't know.
Where are you?
First photo (a piece of shit) 😒
I don't want to miss the opportunity. My head is a mess. I don't have enough light according to the camera settings. Switch to speed priority, turn up the ISO, a little voice is screaming at me from inside my brain. I can't shoot on auto, she does what she wants and you don't want that... the camera, you know, it's a perfect idiot. 😖
I think I've accomplished something. Oh, but... what is it? Get out of there you little squirrel, you rat... move on. 😩
Finally I can get this. It's not a great photo but at least it gives me a chance to show here, a little better, its bright orange color.
It's true what Maximo used to say, we had squirrels in the neighborhood. This is the first time I've seen one. It has caused me some stress but it has already visited my yard and I am sure it will do so again.
I am actually very happy.
😇
