I Don't Want to See Elon in The Sky

in #life3 years ago

Just imagine that you found out that Steve Jobs dissected the brains of Anzhur hamster babies to identify user behavior patterns. Thanks to this research, his products and concepts have become so successful...

Yeah… So, I didn't want to write this post, cuz on the one hand I love technologies, and on the other no less I love nature in its original form. But it is necessary to boldly face the negative facts, even if these facts are about good deeds.

Many bright minds and immature eco-activists in their basements managed to make a fuss about the problem of space debris caused by the launch of the Starlink project. The most pessimistic dudes claim that in the event of mass collisions of a group of satellites, our blue ball will end up in a cocoon of debris. This will stop all space programs, astronauts on the ISS will die of starvation, and we will return to the Stone Age, after devour each other due to overpopulation, and the inability to fly away to live on beautiful red Mars. OK. Maybe. Someday. So far, you can find out how things were with space debris a couple of years ago (here)...

Something else saddens me. Light trails in the sky from already launched starlink satellites- today's problem. More and more observatories and amateur astronomers are giving examples of how a huge number of satellites in low orbit litter the night sky:

For me, as a lover of the bright, magical night sky, it's completely fucked up. Maybe I'm being dramatic and exaggerating… come on! Due to the fact that, supposedly, it is important for some millennial to watch YouTube without loss somewhere in the Chilean mountains, we are ready accept this?

Elon's pranks have always amazed me with their scope and to some extent humanism (probably), but this is too much. Don't tell me about the importance and benefits of widely available wireless internet and how it will change the world. I've been working in Internet providers for damn 12 years. And all this crap is never going to beat a cable connection. This is not a project that will globally change the data transmission infrastructure, it's just a project aimed at the convenience of individual groups of people, areas, narrow tasks.

By the way- iridium looks great in the sky

Let my children see а clear starry sky rather than being swipe-right in Tinder by some aborigine in the Sahara, without delays in the mobile application. Well, Elon Musk upset me personally. I'm sure that he knew what this whole undertaking would lead to in terms of the purity of the sky, but he chose the path of technology to the detriment of the aesthetics of the universe that surrounds us. Brilliant bad Elon…
