It is about 5th August 2023. These days, there was a lot of damage due to torrential rains in Himachal and the rivers and streams were in spate. The weather had wreaked havoc throughout Himachal. Everyone was scared. Then I get a call from my friend who tells me that we are going to Shrikhand Kailash on 10th August. These days, tours are organized here by the administration. I wanted to say no considering the weather but the wanderer in me said yes without thinking.
As soon as 10th August comes, we get the news that due to the breaking of the glacier on the way to Kailash, the administration has banned the journey. These days there was huge devastation due to rain in Himachal. Landsliding has occurred at many places.
I get a call from my friend that the trip has been called off. What do I do now?
I say, don't worry, I know another way, just be fully prepared. We will leave from here on 12th August. And I disconnect the phone.
I have made this journey many times before. I know the route to Shrikhand Kailash very well. I also start packing the goods.
They reach Narkanda by car on 12th August and there are 3 people out of which 1 boy, Arun, is going to Shrikhand Kailash for the first time. Then I think in my mind that he probably won't return home alive.
Now four of us move forward in the car. There are thick dark clouds in the sky. Now we enter the link road from the highway, then after driving for some time, we reach Samej 15/20 village.

We come to know that the road ahead is closed due to landslides. After talking to the local people, we come to know that JCB will open the road tomorrow and we buy some food items from the shop and walk a little further to find a place to pitch the tent. Then we see a huge waterfall and I tell them that this is the perfect place to pitch a tent. My friends stare at me like I'm telling them to jump into a ditch. Then I explain to them that this rock seems very strong and it would be foolish to set up a tent in the mud. Then we set up our tent, eat and sleep. The sound of the waterfall was so loud and scary that no one could sleep well at night.
