My favorite toy as a child

in #hive-168869last month

How does anyone narrow it down to one favorite toy. I was lucky enough to have a few growing up. I felt good when I whittled it down to 3.

In my option toys do not get much better than old school metal dinky, they just do not make toys like that anymore. I did not really get right into the television shows but the robust metal functional toys that actually fired missiles where great.

Dinky 104 is the Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle (SPV) was produced from 1968 to 1976. I have no idea when I got mine but it would have been in the 70s.

The vehicle is from Gerry Anderson’s Captain Scarlet and The Mysterons T.V shows,

Pressing down on the vehicle triggers the missile to launch via a mechanism on the center wheels. The top button opens the side door.

Number 2 is from a different Gerry Anderson show Called UFO, where this toy used to be based on our moon and fly around defending the earth against the UFOs.

The Dinky #351 UFO Interceptor, lock and load the missile mechanism underneath and the firing button is the red plate at the front.

Dinky #353 Shado 2 is my number one and favorite, from the same show UFO with the flip top lid.

I think this was the first one I had. These are not the originals I had from back in the day. I had to rebuy them about 10 years ago and get some spare parts to fix them. I often wonder what happened to the ones I had, I suppose there is some sort of chance I ended up buying the same ones back off ebay.

I'm jealous. I don't think I had any of those, but I used to watch Captain Scarlet and the other shows from Gerry Anderson. I do have a few Dinky toys, but they are not in mint condition.

Very collectible and a long time ago my Dad worked for Dinky and many other big toy companies. So we used to get a lot of toys as kids.

A few years ago Dad auctioned a number of the toys that he had left from his working days and had long been retired now. He certainly had one or two of the these particular toys and boxed, yep boxed - I think he sold one for a staggering £300.

Wow 300 quid would be nice. He did well hanging on to it for so long unopened

It would have been a sample he had when travelling to toy fairs up and down the country, across the channel to Germany where there some phenomenal fairs. I recall the one in Nuremberg being a favourite of his.

Not bad for a guy who started off as a policeman, then bumped into an old friend who knew he was bored of the Police force and got him a job with Meccano! If I’ve spelt that right and that would have been just before I was born in the early 70s.

Wow! Vintage Dinky's! With Authentic battle damage!

Super interesting, surely they would stop making them for using cheaper technology, plastic is cheaper and at the same time less useful life, because the child as soon as he throws them away breaks them, so it is usually a round business.

But, without a doubt, the technical details of these metal carts are wonderful and very well studied...any child would have loved them forever.
Right now they could cost a pretty penny.

They definitely do not make them like they used too

That's right.
