Resigning from my job!

in #hive-1688694 months ago

It was a while ago, a long while, I have been in my current job for over 29 years and that could be coming to an end pretty soon too but overall the strongest memory I have of resigning was four weeks before the end of snow season way back in 1993. It was my third season in a row at a hotel motel, half between Jindabyne and the Perisher snow resort. I had worked my way up to be a important part of the team. Over the three winter seasons I had filled many rolls, Ski hire, night cleaner, room cleaner, general maintenance, helping in the bar and restaurant, kitchen hand and even filling in for the chefs when they were totally hung over and late.

It was hard work but I was living the dream skiing and snow boarding almost everyday and working early and late shifts, I used to organise the roster for my small team but keeping all the best shifts for myself. The hotel was one big party night after night all season long. The real trick was to pace yourself as I was mainly there to ski and hopefully walk away with a few dollars at the end of the season.

Most of the staff lived on site in the hotel upstairs, There was endless drama with like 20 people in 10 rooms. I was lucky to score my own room. It was always a struggle nearing the end of each season. guest numbers would drop off the snow would get thin, even totally disappear in places. The resort would close trails and basically just rely on man made snow created from hydrogen and water as long as it was cold enough over night.

Anyway as my third season was drawing to a close. One of my friends hurt her knee skiing and could not work so she and her backpacking girl friend packed up and left to travel more of Australia on there working holiday.

I kept on working and skiing for a bit but eventually I decided resign, leave the hotel and join my two backing friends and we drove around Australia in my little Hyundai excel hatch car.

My boss was disappoint so close to the end of the season "how am I suppose to replace you at this point in the season and why are you going" but I just didn't really want to say. It would not have been that hard to stay a bit longer and catch up with my friends but the snow was turning to shit and I was board. There was new and better adventures to be had. Soon rumouring started flying around, I had had a fight, an argument or was in love with one of the staff, it was amazing how off the mark they were but I just let them ride trying not confirming or denying.

We were all casual so I think I only gave a less than a weeks notice, maybe not the best move if I wanted to work another season there but I knew I would not be back.

The head chef said all those arguments were nothing and your not the love sick type but your up to something, just let us know when you can.

They found someone to replacement me and I started traveling with my friends. I thought owners/management would be upset but they rang to see how I was. I suppose after 3 seasons there I was almost like family.

Sort:

It's amazing that everyone was casual and only a week's notice is required... but somehow its your fault for choosing to leave when best suited you.

That's a great story though! I hope when you resign/retire from your current role you do so in a sumo suit.

!LOL the sumo suit was fun. I was on channel 9s TV show wild winter weekend twice. Once on the downhill tyre tube race and the other was the pub to pub cross country ski race.

Why did the alcoholic go to the doctors office?
Because he thought there would be shots.
