People Who Give Do not necessarily Have Much. A hard lesson I learned

source

Yesterday in the cold of the evening, I decided to go and look for what to eat. In my locality, people cook and sell, so that you can just walk in there, buy your food and off you go your way. I barely eat out because of how my body reacts to certain foods whenever I decide to do so. I was just tired and lazy to make my dinner so I moved out in search of what to eat.

I got to the food joint stationed by the roadside. A few benches were kept for those who might want to eat their food there. I sat down with three other people. They were having a nice time with their meals while my order was yet to arrive. Not long after, I was done and as I stood up to go, on my way, a young man in his early 30s I supposed, because of his looks, approached me and demanded that I add money to his money to enable him to buy a plate of food. According to him, he had not eaten since the dawn of the day, and the food vendor had refused to sell to him.

I wanted to test him to see what manner of person he was, I told him that I too had not eaten for days and the food vendor had refused to sell on credit for me. He was surprised to hear that from me. As I said that, I walked past him and surprisingly, he called me back and told me that he had 30 bucks with him if he could give me 20 bucks to buy snacks. To say the least, I was dumbfounded to my marrow. How could someone do this, putting his problem aside to gratify another person? In the end, I told him that I was joking, and I had to add the remaining 20 bucks for him to add and buy his food.

Now I am yet to recover from the event. Giving is not until you have enough before you can give. There are people with enormous wealth yet they cannot give out part of their wealth to the poor and needy. Moreover, I have learned that giving is about the heart and not the gift itself. Many people give because they're told or compelled to do so without necessarily having the heart of compassion. Giving is about having a compassionate heart. Most times, putting yourself behind to satisfy another is the best form of giving. This kind of giving cannot go without rewards.

The young man broke my heart in such a way that he changed my perspective on giving. You do not need to have much before you give. From the little that you have, you can still give and be a blessing to someone in your environment. I have been in this web of opinion that I give in my spare. In a real sense, I never had a spare hence it became difficult but with this lesson, my perspective has changed.
