Welcome Back To My Space!
Hello beautiful people! Good to see you back here. Thank you so much for the precious time you spend to read and engage with my post. I want you to know that I appreciate you.
Summer Or Winter, Which One Is Yours?
Funny question? Yeah, right! I just wondered what season you are experiencing right now in your own corner of this global village that we are all living in.
I know that the general talk right now is that we are in the middle of Summer. Well, that will be true if you are living in the temperate regions above the Tropics like Europe and other parts of the world that fall in that category.
However, the temperate regions that fall below the equator (eg South Africa), are currently experiencing Winter, and this will last till September.
Amazing world, right!
Caught In The Middle
Well, in my own part of the world, I will say that the weather we are experiencing right now is somehow caught in the middle of the two. Again, not exactly 😑.
In my country Nigeria, we experience two seasons every year. One is the rainy season which starts from March to November, while the other is the Dry Season which lasts from November to March. Well this is what obtains in the Southern part of Nigeria, as the rainy season in the North is shorter and the dry season longer. Again, this just an average view.
Somewhere in the middle of rainy season, there is usually a few weeks of absence of rain. This has over the years been known as August Break because it normally would occur in August every year.
It is interesting to know that while the Southern part of Nigeria is having a short dry break, the Northern part experiences rain during the said August break. I know, because I lived in the North for many years even though I hail from the Southern part and currently reside there.
Fluctuations In The Rainfall Pattern
In recent years, I have noticed an increasing departure from the weather conditions we have known for many years.
For the past three years, I have noticed that the rainy season doesn't start in March anymore. Maybe the first rain which may just be a light drizzle or light shower. But then suddenly towards April ending, there may even be torrential rains with thunderstorms.
This year 2024, there was rain a few days before Easter (March 30th). I happily planted some seeds (maize, fluted pumpkin). Those seeds only managed to survive because we took the pains to water them every evening. The heat of the sun was too much for the plants. My plantain and banana trees were terribly affected.
By the time the next rain fell on April 22, it was a heavy storm that blew off the roofs of several buildings in my neighbourhood. This affected some businesses and residential houses. Part of my school building was affected, and the roof of my poultry house was completely messed up. Still, my case was still not as bad as other people's experience.
The Current Situation
There has not been rain here in the city (Mowe) where I live for the past two weeks. The days have been cloudy, cold and dry. So in other words, we could say this year's August break started in July (same as the last three years).
There has not been too much heat, neither has there been excessive dryness. Just that it hasn't rained all these days.
And for the records, this is the kind of weather that I enjoy most, hehehe!
At The Moment
I am enjoying the weather as it is right now. The water logs on the different bad roads are gone for now, maybe there will be some road repairs. But then, who knows? The rains may come back any moment from now.
And... that is it about the weather and in my area. I wrote this as my response to Day2 prompt of #augustinleo challenge. Read more in this post by @nwothini335 in the @cleanplanet community.
