Rain is an essential and crucial part of our lives as humans. As kids, we always looked forward to rainy days as our parents allowed us go out and play in the rain with our friends. While we were playing in the rain, farmers were also happy in their homes cos their farms were also going to benefit from the rain.
Honestly, most people, especially adults don’t know how vital rainfall is aside the fact that they get to fetch water and store in their rooms and also experience the cold weather. I was once like this until I started to be more conscious of my surroundings. I didn’t know much about climate change until some years ago. Trust me when I tell you every little act of ours has an impact on our ecosystem even if we don’t realise it. Finally, it has caught up with us cos tell me why we are in August and there’s little to no sign of rainfall even in the northern part of the country.
In 2019 when I first came here, I could rain for 3 or 4 days straight and it was a normal thing here.4 years down the line, there’s no rain , crops are dying , farmers are frustrated, food is expensive, and a whole lot. Step into the market today and you’d be shocked by the prices of foodstuff. It’s like the prices increase every. Before, a small sum of money could get you so much in the market but today, you’d need a lot of money to step into the market. And when I say a lot, I mean a loooooot!
Everyone that is concerned is worried about the rainfall pattern this year. I literally sleep in my weather app these days but you really can’t trust these forecasts offlate. Forecast says this, real time weather says otherwise. Clouds form, it’s drizzles for a second and that’s it! Like what? At this point I don’t know if God is punishing us or it’s really the effects of our actions. But whichever be the case, we need a way out really fast cos it’s getting out of hand. This should serve as a lesson to us all. Let’s protect our planet cos it’s all we’ve got.
