Everyone has told lies at least once in their lives. You can call it a good lie or whatever you choose to but a lie is a lie. Some lies are actually necessary especially when someone’s life or something else is at risk but in all, we have to make sure not to make lying a habit.
One thing I hate in my life is lies. I don’t even lie when it’s necessary because what could possibly happen if I speak the truth. At my big age, I really don’t fancy telling lies because it’s not going to benefit me in anyway. This morning, I was speaking to a friend of mine and through our conversation we found out that one of our friends lied to us. We both had different versions of the story and I felt very shy when I realised she had lied to us but since she’s my friend I just found a way to cover her tracks for her. I felt very disappointed but I’m really not going to confront her.
But, I wouldn’t say this is the worst lie I’ve been told. I would say the worst lies I’ve ever been told were during my childhood days as I believed them to the core. I spent the early days of my life in my grandparents house with some of my cousins. We had a big mango tree in the house which attracted ants and other insects and you know how kids are. We would always follow these animals trying to kill them.
Once, my cousin saw I cockroach in the compound and used his hand to kill it. This guy then carried it and started using it to scare the other kids in the house. My mom found out and told us that anyone who kills insects with their hands, especially cockroaches will get leprosy. She then told us to imagine ourselves with leprosy begging on the streets because she will sack anyone with leprosy from the house.😂 That was the last we heard of any kid playing with insects in the house.
And to think that I believed this all my life until two days when I saw a cockroach in my house and used my slipper to kill it.😂 Guys, I’ve been lied to. I called my mom and asked her if that lie was necessary and she said it was at that point. I’m still scared about the whole cockroach and leprosy thing and I’d say a part of me still believes it and I just can’t seem to get myself to drop that lie from my brain.
Another big lie which I think we all believed once in our lives was how people used to say in school that if you use red pen to write your name you’ll die. God! I saw my mates fight with each other in the class just because someone wrote another persons name in the names of talkative students list with a red pen. For a minute I thought we were going to have to deal with world war3 cos this girl even brought her mom to school.😂 I also believed it to some extent as I also warned everyone to not use red pen to write my name cos I was too young to die.
Thinking about all these bring back so many memories and thoughts. To think that I actually believed all these is unbelievable. But I guess that’s the beauty of being a kid. Were you ever told any of these lies?
