From the little history I know about Ghana, bad things never happened at the end of most of the historical stories. From the time Kwame Nkrumah and the others started to fight for Ghana, everything was for the good of our country because at the end of the day, the country gained independence and we the future generations are benefiting from the sacrifices our forefathers made during their days.
When we look away from political side to the tribal side. Talk of Yaa Asantewaa, Okomfo Anoyke and the likes. They all fought for their tribes to have their independence and safety in the country and their sacrifice and hard work continues to live on till today. But in todays Ghana, the story is different. In years to come, it’s likely that the history our kids would be taught in school wouldn’t have good storylines. It will be more like the fall from grace and many more of our country because everyone is selfish today. Right from the top till the buttom.
My main problem is how our country has been brought to total shit by politics. If I get the chance to rewrite history today or any day for even a second, it’s going to obviously be our political stance as a country. Most people in Ghana are blindly following politics with no idea what politics really entails. We are being deceived to vote for leaders who are not competent and after years and years of suffering, we still go back to cast our vote for them. This is something I would change. The first thing I would do is to change the mindset of our Ghanaian folks so that history would have it that, we voted for the best person to lead us and not because we were given a 5kg bag of rice and I small bottle of oil.
Next one the list of what I would change in the history of Ghana is to go back to the national election held last 4 years and either change the results or just erase the fact that the election ever happened. Imagine voting a party into power for four good years and they aren’t able to do anything tangible. And then, we go back to vote them again for an additional for years saying ‘four more to do more’. Now, tell me. Where’s the more they did in the past for years we gave them as an addition to their first term. It was more like a ‘four more to take from you and make you suffer ‘ kind of thing. Cos now, the country is a big mess. Inflation is killing us, our currency has lost its value and nothing seems to go well with the average citizen. But guess what, the higher ups are living large and they don’t even care to hide it from us. They’re stealing from us right in our faces and they fail to remember that history is being written even now. Because in years to come , the story of how they brought the country to shambles would be told.
But, if I could change history, we wouldn’t have to tell our kids this heartbreaking story in the future.
