I know we always say that we should do good and expect nothing in return but really, why would I do good to someone who’s ungrateful. Not everyone deserves your pity or sacrifice because they just don’t. Ghana for instance has been suffering for decades. Our forefathers fought till their last breath just for us to attain independence as a country but guess what?
Just this year, a running mate for a political party came out to say that even our Kwame Nkrumah cannot meet the aspiring presidential candidates level. Imagine you, someone who couldn’t even manage a country for a few years comparing yourself to someone who sacrificed his whole life for us to enjoy the lives we are living today. This is just an example of human beings being who and what we are.
Different situations call for different actions. To sacrifice oneself or the lives of others for the greater good of all can be a huge decision to make, no doubt. But, first stop and ask yourself, is it really worth it? I bet you, people have sacrificed everything for others and at the end of the day, it wasn’t really worth it. Human beings have been living in pain and suffering for so long, not because people didn’t try to solve it but because some people always want to be at the top.
Personally, if I’m to sacrifice the lives of about a hundred or more people for the rest of the world I wouldn’t. This isn’t something I would even think about because how sure am I that after I sacrifice the lives of so many people for the rest of the world, everyone won’t just go back to their old ways like nothing happened. No matter the sacrifice, some people will just keep being who they are and I don’t think I can watch things like this happen. But, in a situation where I am required to sacrifice just my life for everyone else, I think I might consider it. Even though i don’t trust everyone on the surface of this earth to make my sacrifice worth it, I think it’s worth the try. Sometimes, it’s best to give people the benefit of the doubt.
Human beings are really unpredictable if you ask me and there are just some things we can’t afford to mess up. Sacrificing my life for everyone else is something I would do but to sacrifice the lives of others for everyone else and watch them not even acknowledge it is a no no for me.
