In my family, I’m know as the goat. Not the greatest of all times but the goat that eats leaves. Everyone in my family is literally a meat lover. During Eid celebrations, I’m surprised at how my family members don’t get fed up of meat and they just keep eating it every blessed day. While me on the other hand would be craving for my vegetables.
Due to health reasons, I don’t take dairy products and I’m also not a fan of meat. I don’t also remember the last time I ate fish cos I just don’t like the smell of it. Weird right? Most people see me to be weird because I eat all my meals with vegetables. Be it rice, spaghetti, yam or whatever. It’s only soupy foods I eat without without vegetables. I’m not a big eater but when I do eat, I make sure to eat healthy.
You know how they say too much of everything is bad? It’s actually very true cos from what I know, too much of meat is bad due to the fat and all of that. I literally watched an uncle of mine go from being fit to having a pot belly because he chose to spend so much money on meat every blessed day. Aside meat, he was also consuming a lot of diary products and sweets which I was totally against. I understand that some of us have a sweet tooth but then, we shouldn’t forget that our health is also important.
Personally, I believe everyone has their definition of healthy living and for me, it has to do with what I take in. I wouldn’t say being vegan is bad and I also wouldn’t say not being vegan is bad. What I think is bad is taking in excess of one particular food. At this point in my life, it’s safe to say I’m vegan cos I literally eat veggies everyday. But , I wouldn’t say I want to be totally vegan because being vegan would mean that I wouldn’t take in any animal based food which means I would be losing some nutrients which are essential to my body.
Regardless, even if I’m to be vegan, I don’t think it would be 100%. Maybe 60% which I think I already am.😂 Taking in fruits and vegetables is an everyday thing for me and I think it’s very healthy for me and I would definitely encourage everyone to include fruits and vegetables in their diets instead of always taking in excess meat and animal products. I believe it’s important to take in both plant based food and animal food but it should be in the right proportion for the right results.
We all eat food everyday but how many of us can say we eat right? Just a few of us can boast of eating right and this should tell us that we need to do better as individuals when it comes to what we take in. We are what we eat and so lets endeavour to eat healthy and right!
