Hello hello everyone !
How are you my dear friends?
Black pepper is a spice that every housewife in Sri Lanka keeps in their kitchen. So today I am going to share with you about pepper which is a very valuable agricultural export crop.
In this post, the basic information of the pepper plant and its appearance , how to plant a new plants at home without chemical fertilizers, and how to make pepper for home consumption are mentioned.
I thought to publish information about pepper cultivation a long time ago. But it was late. I really wanted to see if it is possible to plant pepper plants without organic fertilizers. I was thinking about it the same days I posted about turmeric cultivation in this community. I was late for the reason I mentioned earlier.
Since the past, pepper has a high value as an indispensable spice for food. Also, it can be introduced as one of the main spices used for food. In fact, pepper is also known as the king of spices.
I remember when I was in school there were details about pepper in my history books. In those books, people referred to pepper as "black gold". Also, in some countries, pepper was used to exchange for money.
Actually, the reason I still remember these details is because I am currently working in a school. Actually working in a school, we can get information about various things.
Pepper that originated in India, today India, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia are the main pepper producing countries. Also, many varieties of pepper have been found in Sri Lanka, so it is believed that pepper first originated in Sri Lanka.
Kandy district, where I live in Sri Lanka, Matale, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Ratnapura districts are the districts where pepper is cultivated. These districts belong to the midland wet and lowland region and intermediate regions.
The appearance of the pepper plant
In this way, one bull grows like a vine. At the time of planting small plants, a support should be installed. Pepper vines grow up and down the support. And the plant grows in the ground near it.
The color of the leaves is dark green. This leaves is quite thick. The leaves at the ground level are smaller than the leaves at the upper level.
A well-drained soil rich in organic matter is required for pepper cultivation. Peppers are susceptible to various diseases by cultivating in poorly drained soil. If there is no good water supply in dry areas peppers cannot be successfully maintained. It is not really suitable for the area with long drought.
They are a shade loving crop, requiring average temperatures and adequate rainfall. Strong winds are destructive. Light shade is sufficient for this crop.Propagation is done by cuttings of the pepper plant, and for that, cuttings with leaves growing on top of a mother plant that gives good pepper seeds are suitable.
Small plants that have been potted in this way should be kept in a well-shaded place so that they are not damaged by the wind. And soil moisture should be protected.
Now let's see how to plant a new plant at home without chemical fertilizers.
If the soil used for this is of high quality, chemical fertilizers are not required. But this situation changes if pepper plantation is carried out at the business level. Try as I show you.
.Topsoil (sandy topsoil)
.Coir
.Home made compost
.A small cover or bag
📌️Get these leafy parts from the top of the plant.
📌️Here is the part obtained like this. Wet it well with water.
📌️Cut about 45 degrees below the root position as shown in the picture.
📌️Now cut the top part at 45 degrees as shown in the picture. If what I said is not clear to you then look at the image. The end should be like this as if there is a single sheet.
📌️Now mix the top soil, compost, and coir, fill the cover and press it well.Plant the cut part of the plant. Add water.
keep in a sheltered place that is windproof and in low sunlight. The wind causes the roots of the plant to shake. Add fungicide if possible.
By adding the fertilizer used to grow the roots of the plant, you can get plants suitable for planting within a period of 30 days. But it took about 3 months for my plant. This is the plant obtained after three months.
The pepper seeds obtained for consumption are like this. It requires well-ripened peppercorns. These are dried and made into powder for consumption. Dark green colour before drying. These should be dried in the hot sun for at least 7days. After drying it is black.
