It's not every day I get to comment on an absolutely bonkers Kickstarter in the tabletop RPG space, but with 8 days yet to go and 8.8 million USD already collected... I think it's safe to say that the Cosmere RPG based upon Brandon Sanderson's works definitely fits the 'bonkers' category.

Brandon Sanderson has had great Kickstarter success before, with his prior Kickstarter for his secret novels reaching an unbelievable $41,754,153 USD a few years ago... which for any writer anywhere is an absolutely astonishing number. So, with the prior Kickstarter success, it shouldn't surprise me that he's quickly taking the top spot for highest valued ttrpg Kickstarter of all time.

I count myself among the backers of both his prior Kickstarter and of this one, and I'm very much looking forward to reading and playing the Cosmere RPG. Having played with a small variety of TTRPG rule-sets now, I don't think most of the mechanics here are particularly new or exciting... but the chance to dive deeper into the amazing worldbuilding done by Brandon Sanderson is something I would have trouble passing up.

I'm a huge fan of good worldbuilding - which should be obvious since half of my entire Hive presence is dedicated to Worldbuilding and TTRPGs - and ol' Brando Sando has some top-tier worldbuilding. The settings within Mistborn and Stormlight Archives are absolutely fantastic, and that doesn't even count all the other worlds he's designed within the Cosmere (which is the name given to his fictional universe).

So, while I had promised myself I wouldn't buy yet another Kickstarter that will see limited or non-existent play... I'm breaking that promise and snagging this for sure. Rewards in 2025 and 2026 should be a fun distraction from whatever bitcoin and hive are doing at that time, and I think I already have enough nerdy friends invested in both tabletop gaming and Sanderson's works that putting together a table should be extremely easy... I'll just need to find time to RUN it!
