Whychus Canyon Preserve - An End Of Winter Hike

in #hive-1063168 months ago

It was the last day of winter and our first upper 60 degree F day in quite some time. The sun was shining bright so I decided to get myself out for a well needed hike and an opportunity to take a few pictures. My destination was the Whychus Canyon Preserve not far from where I live. So join me for a short hike around the canyon.

wcp-1.jpgAll of our winter snow was pretty much gone but the trail was still a little muddy in places. Lucky for me the ground was still frozen from the night before when I started my hike.

Reaching the rim of the canyon I could see the opposite wall and some of the rim-rock.

wcp-6.jpgAfter descending a bit into the canyon the trail leveled out and I headed east.

wcp-13.jpgOne last look east down the canyon before I drop down a bit more and head west. Being a little out of shape from the winter I chose not to drop all the way down to Whychus Creek this day. I still had some up hill to do on the way back and judging by how my legs felt the next day I made the right decision. 😅

wcp-15.jpgLike I said, still a little uphill to go. 🫠

wcp-18.jpgBlack Crater, Belknap Crater and Mt Washington come into view as I near the top of the canyon.

Never made it to Three Sisters, but way back in 1975 I climbed up from Timberline Lodge to about 10,000 feet on Mt. Hood (beyond that you’d need gear and skills) on a clear day and could see at least as far as the Sisters.

Yeah, you were pretty close to the top. I lived near St Helens for a lot of years but never gave it a try. Even after it lost 1000 feet. lol. Afraid my days of trying to climb a mountain peak have probably passed me by.

Very cool! Thank you. 😀

Hey! It's crazy to live in such an environment. It's like a cowboy movie to me haha! The landscapes are magnificent. Thanks for sharing 😉

You're welcome! It is definitely like the west out here. Even my town's buildings have an old west theme.

I hope to be able to go there one day, it's an old dream of mine. It's not such a burning dream that if I don't do it I'll feel bad at the end of my life, but I'd like to visit a place like that. So it will happen ^^

Yeah, I try to never let regret for things I haven't done get me down. I've been fortunate to do a lot of things and try to focus my pleasure on the stuff I can still accomplish. 🙂
