Something that I once used to do so much was play Call of Duty Mobile. A group of friends back in the university got me in, and then I quickly became addicted to it. When the pandemic hit, the mobile game and a few other apps were my everyday things. And, of course, Netflix and chill.
I can't say that I play games as much as I once did. I have become rather less interested in games, especially in the last two years, as certain things filled my mind instead. What I always remember is how I would feel in completely different digital spaces where I only needed to either compete, have fun, or enjoy a good story.
Many times, I just want to be somewhere else that wouldn't require much thinking. Leisure on some of these digital guilty pleasures do the trick most times, although I have considered other natural options like travelling, visiting beaches, playing sports, and things that are more physically involved. Doing that these days isn't exactly convenient.
I spend a good amount of time watching films. To make things convenient, I keep my subscription to streaming services active. Rather than going through millions of redirects and ads on third-party sites, it's just easier to find what you're looking for on much simpler and straightforward platforms. I reckon that there are free ones, though, but ehnn...
YouTube, yes. When I am not jumping around on Discord and Instagram, I am probably on YouTube watching long videos and shorts from my favourites. And YouTube does this thing where it learns what your interests may be very fast and then configures your feed to cater to them. I find this really brilliant sometimes, but it annoys me some days.
Perhaps I find one video of a flying cat to be funny and interesting, and then check out one or two similar videos. The next thing I see when I login again are, you guessed it, flying cat videos! So now I am thinking of having a different account for random indulgences. My only problem is that I wouldn't be able to transfer my YouTube premium subscription.
I am not sure I will stop my YouTube premium subscription any time soon. Watching YouTube on a different device today, I was surprised by an ad in the middle of a video. I hadn't seen that in at least two months and already became very used to the no-ads experience.
Anyway, for me, it's mostly Netflix and YouTube that are my digital guilty pleasures. Call of Duty Mobile fell off the list a very long time ago, but I keep reconsidering it from time to time. I am on a new set of film series to binge-watch, and my favourite YouTubers are always cooking something, so from time to time I give them a visit.
