It might be weird, but one of the few things I have been thankful for in the last couple of weeks is this little guy. Yeah, this piece of accessory. It's made working on my laptop so much easier than I realised before. But it made me realise something else as well.
The thing is, I had actually wanted to own one for a long time since I first tried it but never really got around to buying one. I mostly always thought, "Nah, I probably don't need it." I just never made it a priority each time I visited Computer Village, a tech market in Lagos.
Ergonomics is always important. The way something is designed to make you feel more efficient goes a long way. An example is how you'd feel in some hours in a wooden chair versus an ergonomic one. You're likely to do more work or at least feel comfortable in the ergonomic chair. It's the same with keyboards.
Although this isn't really about keyboards, we'll start with that. You see, there's always a big difference in various kinds of keyboard for someone that works in front of a PC for most of the time. Typing or coding has to feel convenient if you have to do it for a long time. Some keyboards are a freaking pain in the ass to use. That's not the case with my PC.
There's another factor to consider -- elevation. Everyone has their style, but in my experience, when there's the right level of elevation, there can be added comfort. And that's exactly what this stand provides. Some people like to call it bracket. Whatever suits anyone.
Depending on how high a table is from the chair in which I am sitting, this elevation can matter. If table and chair are at the right heights, then I may not bother with the stand. Most of the time, my table feels really high because I use a low chair. And that's exactly how this stand comes in.
The stand (or bracket) has different height levels I can choose from. And it makes all the difference. Just that small elevation makes typing or coding way more convenient to do. You might be wondering if that's really the case. Well, one man's food may not be another man's...
After finally getting one and seeing the improvement in efficiency it gives, it got me thinking how small changes can have a big impact. And that procrastinating just helps waste time.
