I have heard this a lot of times from my siblings and it is no longer a new thing to me "stubborn " They have always called me a stubborn child and I feel it is a normal thing for siblings to call their younger ones stubborn because me too I did call my younger brother stubborn a lot of times. Things were not smooth for the family this year, and my eldest sister has been the one catering for me and my elder brother, who just graduated last week, of course, with support from my parents. While all these happened (the story I am about to tell you ) my brother was still in school.
I have never really given the scholarships I have heard about a thought, I heard people were awarded the scholarship so on and so forth, but I was so nonchalant about it that even friends told me how they were selected for the final stage to write the exams and they came out victorious, I felt that is God for them. One day I was scrolling through Facebook which I rarely do (I go through Facebook once in a blue moon) as I was scrolling through I saw this scholarship for people in my local government, it's basically for every student in my state, but it is conducted on different days and different locations, back to my story.
I just saw it and submitted everything that we were asked to submit online without giving it a second, and thinking it through, I did everything and just forgot about it. A few days before the exam date, I received an email that the exams had been shifted due to the protest then happening in Nigeria. Mind you, because I was so nonchalant about it, I did not know there was a group for the students to learn about it until the day I wrote the exams. Since they canceled the exams I stopped reading, I thought I would be given questions based on mass communication, no I did not "think" so I heard from someone, I stopped reading and one morning after some weeks a new email was sent for a new date to write the examination, now this is where it all began.
I called my elder sister and told her about the scholarship and I needed transportation fare to go write the exams from Bayelsa to my village in Delta state and that cost like ... Let me say approximately #15,000 (fifteen thousand nairas) to and fro then is #30,000 (thirty thousand nairas) she immediately went against it that I should not worry they will look for a way to get me my tuition fee. I left her and went to my eldest sister and she was against it everyone I told was against it, some said what if I fail, some said the transportation fare is too expensive, and my mum said the road these days is not good and not safe ( on that day I got to my parent's house at night 😁). I felt like I was alone 😭 I cried and consoled myself with the same determination that I would sit for that exam and pass it.
Two days before the exams, I spoke to a senior who gave me money; I did not tell him about the scholarship because I knew he too would discourage me, and after collecting the money, I traveled home and my parents were surprised to see me all that happened after is a long story very long. The next day, I traveled to my elder sister's house, which is a bit closer to the exam center. She, too, was surprised, and the first words that came out of her mouth were, "This child, you are too stubborn. " I felt bad, but life still moved on.
At the venue, I met this lovely soul, Chioma, who was also my seatmate, and we started talking. I got to know that they would be giving us quests based on general knowledge while I was busy reading Mass communication topics 😔. After all the many screenings and registration (those people were very strict), we sat for the examination, and I was scared because I wasn't prepared, but I wrote the exam anyway; there was no chance to even copy from your neighbor. We were asked to submit and wait right on the premises for the collation of results and when the results came out my seatmate's name wasn't there but my name was the second to the last, I was shocked and at the same time felt bad for my seatmate, we all hugged exchanged phone numbers and went our way.
While going home several thoughts were running through my mind.
What if you had failed:
How do you face people?
How do you pay back the money you collected from your senior
My siblings will for sure laugh me to scorn.
News flash I passed the exams and got the school 😁. Meanwhile, I took the exams on a Saturday and had exams at my school on Monday, that kind of risk, but thank God I passed those exams. If not, I'm sure I would have fainted on the spot.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. See you soon. 🤗
peace out ✌️
