Today was a Saturday loaded with many family activities, from a Kayak ride on the "Tejo" river to going out for a few beers with the family! however, my favorite activity was having visited the "Monastery of Alcobaça" because inside there is a story that happened with the royal family of King "Pedro I of Portugal", so I bring you a post full of good energies and you will also learn a little about Portugal!🚩🧭🚙🍲
Kayak morning🙇♂️🚣♀️🚣♂️
Our first family activity was kayaking in a bay that is about 20 minutes from my home! I organized myself with my sister and friends to come and practice this energetic water sport a little! For some time I have been practicing it with my wife and this is my sixth time that I have walked along the Tejo River in Portugal! Something I like about this sport is that it allows you to create family ties and de-stress a little!🦾💥🧠
We start at 9:00 since the activity is free and lasts 40 minutes, so after finishing here we all went together to meet at my house at noon to have lunch, together we gathered money to buy the ingredients and make a chicken soup, my wife had to work at noon and would return at 4:00 p.m. to then go to the "Alcobaça Monastery" and end the day with some beers at the "Costa de Caparica" a very famous beach south of Portugal🚣♀️😱🍲🚙
Monasterio de Alcobaça🙇♂️🚩🧭
Taking advantage of the good weather we decided to take a quick walk to the city of Alcobaça which is located in the "Leiria" district, let's say about 40 minutes from my home! It is a quick walk, you will probably visit the monastery in 30 minutes, but it is something that is worth it because many important people of the country are buried inside, most of them kings and queens!🏯🏰
You are looking at the first "gothic" architectural structure that was built in Portugal! Its construction began in the 1178th century and gives us an idea of how old this monastery is! in 1989 it was considered a "UNESCO heritage" and is one of the most visited places in the district of Leiria!🤯😨😱🏰🏯
A sad story🙇♂️🚩🧭
Pedro I of Portugal who was the son of Alfonso came to the crown in the year 1325, the prince made the mistake of falling in love with "one of his wife's maidens" called "Ines Castro" they tried to hide their relationship but when Alfonso IV gave account of his son's affair with Ines, who would later be assassinated for political purposes! when this happens father and son went to war "practically for a forbidden love", historians say that the murdered body of Ines lies here in this tomb!😨😱😓💔
In 2007 this beautiful monastery would become one of the "7 wonders of Portugal", who promoted the construction of the monastery were some "monks who belonged to the Cistercian Catholic order". In my personal experience it is a very beautiful place and Alcobaça is a city known because a bloody war between the Spanish and the Portuguese was waged here!💥💖🤩
With my wife's family🙇♂️🍻🍺🧭
Finally we would spend a few hours in a bar in "Costa de Caparica" which is a tourist area located in the most famous beaches of Lisbon! We were accompanied by my wife's sister, her boyfriend and her grandmother! It was a super day full of many activities! I hope you enjoyed our experience!🍻💖🧑👨👩🧓👩🦰
