From Fear To Confidence

Asking if I have ever disappointed my parents while growing up is a broad question, and I would say "disappointed" is relative because what may be disappointment to one person might not be to another person.

I remember one time I was still in high school when our results were released. I didn't do so well, unlike the previous term, though my total average was far better than the previous term, but my position wasn't great as I went backwards in positioning.

I was so scared of showing my dad my results when he came to pick me up from school because I thought I had disappointed him. My dad noticed how quiet and tense I was and asked if I was okay. I burst out crying and apologizing for disappointing him and not making him proud with my results.

But to my greatest surprise, even before he collected my report sheet to check, he comforted me and told me to stop crying, and one thing he said I would never forget is that I still have other exams to write. That hit differently because I have seen parents scold, threaten to deal with and disown, reprimand, punish, etc., their children or wards for not meeting their expectations in one exam, as though that exam was the only exam the child was ever going to write.

I know I have done countless things my parents were not happy about, but I don't think I have ever disappointed them because they have never said those words to me.

Thank you

Having understanding parents is soothing

Yea, it is

Your dad really did well. It was nice of him to comfort you and boost your confidence.

Yea, thank you 🤗

You're welcome

You're indeed blessed with an amazing dad. Some other kids would have had the scolding of their lives.
