This year for the feast of the patron saint of Reggio Calabria there has been a lot of controversy.
For those who do not know, the patron saint of my city is the Madonna della Consolazione while the patron saint is St. Giorgio.
Most of these controversies could have been avoided with a more careful management of the event by the municipal administration, of course, it would have been necessary for those who administer the city not to be totally incompetent.
Unfortunately we in Reggio are not so lucky since incompetence and inefficiency reign supreme.
The watchword here is: poor service!
The latest stroke of genius by our mayor was to extend the closure of schools until September 19, the last day of the celebrations, only on the religious side, however, the secular celebrations will continue until the 23rd with rides, stalls and sweets.
The decision taken was justified by having "granted" the possibility to the youngest to fully enjoy the Marian festivities, in reality it simply serves to plug a series of inconveniences due to the traffic of the city.
Inconveniences obviously created by the municipal administration thanks to a series of parking and transit bans scattered throughout the city and which, practically at any hour of the day and night, congest car traffic.
Practically, in Reggio Calabria, until the 23rd you cannot go out by car!
I admit that I personally don't like to get into these controversies also because, there is little to say or to argue about, we are talking about people who wouldn't know how to manage their team in fantasy football, let alone a metropolitan area like that of Reggio Calabria.
I would like to tell you two things because, all things considered, traffic problems can be tolerated or at least overcome by doing what I did, just don't go to the city center and don't go out during the festival period.
I can understand that not everyone is a hermit and antisocial like me but, sometimes, excessive sociability is overrated.
In my opinion, in this specific case, the decision taken by the mayor leads more than anything to a whole series of criticisms from an ideal point of view; it has practically endorsed the fact that in Reggio Calabria the festival is more important than school.
This thing is not heresy and indeed, given the cultural level of our city, it seems to be real.
Of course it is true that usually in the first days of school not much is done, but I think that here the problem is one of principle.
Naturally such a thoughtless decision, I would even say crazy, can only lead to criticism.
Often those who manage my city, responding to these criticisms, almost say that they are under fire, let's say a bit as if people criticized every decision on principle and in a completely biased way; it is not actually the fault of the citizens if these nonentities, in ten years of municipal administration, have not managed to make a right decision.
They have only caused trouble and when they leave they will leave the city worse than how they found it and, I assure you, it will have been a truly titanic undertaking given that ten years ago we were already reduced to the bare minimum.
However, staying on the specific case, the decision taken in my opinion is an indication of the decline of the Reggio society; yes, because not only those who had this idea demonstrate that they care more about the school festival, but also many fellow citizens who welcomed the initiative.
There would have been no doubt that the kids were happy but that many of their parents are too is a problem and, as I see it, also of gigantic proportions.
By the way, it must be said that shortly before the start of the school year, the news came out that ten school buildings in Reggio Emilia are unusable and this is also a scandal and a demonstration of how important education is in this city!
Just think that some of these schools have been unusable since last year but no action has been taken.
The days of the celebration, as well as the dates of the start of school have been planned for a long time, consequently, it would have been possible to organize in time in order to avoid a whole series of difficulties and inconveniences that we are experiencing today.
And believe me, if the traffic problems had been circumvented, rest assured that the mayor would not have postponed the start date of school; basically, he did it to plug a hole that he had created, it takes art to invent solutions that are worse than the problems, don't you think?

La maggior parte di queste polemiche si sarebbero potute evitare con una più oculata gestione dell'evento da parte dell'amministrazione comunale, naturalmente, sarebbe stato necessario che chi amministra la città non fosse un totale incompetente.
Purtroppo noi a Reggio non abbiamo questa fortuna visto che l'incompetenza e l'inefficienza regnano sovrane.
La parola d'ordine qui è: disservizio!
L'ultima genialata da parte del nostro sindaco è stata quella di prolungare la chiusura delle scuole fino al 19 di settembre ultimo giorno dei festeggiamenti, solo dal lato religioso però, i festeggiamenti laici invece andranno avanti fino al 23 con giostre, bancarelle e dolcetti.
La decisione presa è stata giustificata con l'aver "concesso" la possibilità ai più giovani di godere a pieno delle festività mariane, in realtà semplicemente serve a tamponare una serie di disservizi dovuti alla viabilità della la città.
Disservizi ovviamente creati dall'amministrazione comunale grazie a una serie di divieti di sosta e di transito sparsi per tutta la città e che, praticamente a ogni ora del giorno e della notte, congestionano il traffico automobilistico.
Praticamente, a Reggio Calabria, fino al 23 in macchina non si può uscire!
Ammetto che personalmente non amo entrare in queste polemiche anche perché, c'è poco da dire o da far polemica, stiamo parlando di gente che non saprebbe gestire la sua squadra al fantacalcio figuriamoci un'area metropolitana come quella di Reggio Calabria.
Due cose due desidero però dirle perché, tutto sommato, i problemi di traffico si possono sopportare o comunque si può sopperire facendo come me, basta non andare al centro della città e non uscire nel periodo della festa.
Posso capire che non tutti siano eremiti e asociali come lo sono io ma, a volte, l'eccessiva socialità è sopravvalutata.
Secondo me, nel caso specifico, la decisione presa dal sindaco porta più che altro a tutta una serie di critiche da un punto di vista ideale; ha praticamente avallato il fatto che a Reggio Calabria la festa sia più importante della scuola.
Questa cosa non è un'eresia e anzi, stando al livello culturale della nostra città, sembra proprio che sia reale.
Certo è vero che solitamente nei primi giorni di scuola non si fa poi molto, credo che qui però il problema sia di principio.
Naturalmente una decisione cosi scriteriata, direi anche folle, non può che portare a critiche.
Spesso chi gestisce la mia città, rispondendo a queste critiche, afferma quasi di essere sotto tiro diciamo un po' come se la gente criticasse ogni decisione per partito preso e in maniera del tutto faziosa; non è in realtà colpa della cittadinanza se queste nullità, in dieci anni di amministrazione comunale, non sono riusciti a prendere una giusta decisione.
Hanno combinato solo guai e quando andranno via lasceranno la città peggio di come l'hanno trovata e, Ti assicuro, sarà stata davvero un'impresa titanica visto che già dieci anni fa eravamo ridotti ai minimi termini.
Comunque restando sul caso specifico, la decisione presa secondo me è indice della deriva della società reggina; si perché, non solo chi ha avuto questa idea dimostra di avere più a cuore la festa della scuola, ma anche tantissimi concittadini che hanno ben accolto l'iniziativa.
Che i ragazzi fossero contenti non ci sarebbe stato alcun dubbio ma che anche molti dei loro genitori lo siano è un problema e, per come la vedo io, anche di proporzioni giganti.
Tra l'altro c'è da dire che poco prima dell'inizio dell'anno scolastico è venuta fuori la notizia che, dieci plessi scolastici reggiani siano inagibili e anche questo è uno scandalo ed è la dimostrazione di quanto sia importante l'istruzione in questa città!
Basti pensare che alcune di queste scuole sono inagibili già dall'anno passato ma nessun provvedimento è stato preso.
I giorni della festa, così come le date dell'inizio della scuola sono programmati da molto tempo, di conseguenza, ci si sarebbe potuti organizzare per tempo in maniera da evitare tutta una serie di difficoltà e disservizi che oggi stiamo vivendo.
E credi a me, se i problemi di viabilità fossero stati aggirati, sta tranquillo che il sindaco non avrebbe rimandato la data di inizio della scuola; fondamentalmente lui lo ha fatto per tappare un buco che aveva creato, ci vuole arte a inventarsi soluzioni che sono peggio dei problemi, non credi?
