Something different, to avoid the same old.

We were expecting rain, but thankfully had some early morning sunshine.

Even with the sunshine, the clouds started gathering, so we tried to make the most out of the dry window (period).

I see that there are many posts that talk about the crazy weather, and it's just as crazy here in the Cape Province of South Africa. In Europe there are heat waves and fires, and over here we have tons of water and floods. With all of the rain falling, Spring season in September is going to be very colorful and the mountain hills will be covered in wildflower carpets. We always look forward to spring and this year will be sure to deliver an abundant show. So, when winter arrives in the northern hemisphere, the summer will arrive here in the southern hemisphere, and it will be our turn to struggle with wildfires.

The stream that you saw in the photo above, was running strongly as you can see below.

We took a drive around our area, and I was happy to get some shots to share with you.

Here below you can see how the clouds started to cover the sun.

I told you that there would be something different.

A pied crow landed in a tree, and we could see that it was eating something.
086.JPG

I couldn't get a clear view of what the crow was eating, so I walked around to the other side of the tree, hoping to see what the crow was eating.
Wow! The crow caught a mole.

Swallowing the pieces that it ripped off the mole.

But the crow noticed me, and it took off with the mole in its beak.

Unperturbed, I went on to take some more weather shots.

Finally, there was a faint halo around the sun, which told me that only light rain will be falling. The brighter that the outer colored ring of a halo gets, means that the heavier the rain would be.

We have hordes of moles here, as the soil below the mountains is very fertile, and the moles have much to eat. Now for those that do not know what a mole is, they are blind rodents that live in tunnels that they burrow under the ground. They are definitely not a gardener's delight, as their shallow tunnels can destroy many plants and vegetables. The ground that the moles excavate is distributed by them to form little heaps above the ground, and to locate a mole is easy as one just has to start digging into the heaps to locate the tunnels. I have done some posts in the past with live moles that I found.

So, I hope that you enjoyed the story and the pictures.

At last, and the good news is that the next two days will be clear with sunshine. I like to show the differences, and it's the strong winds that help me, by changing the views constantly.

A good day also to you Dimas.
