Another week, another contest!!... Congratulations to last week's winners!! Last week my mind went blank when it came about winter movies :S it was after reading the entries that I realized there are many winter movies I like😅
Anyway, this week it was an easy pick for me and here it is:

Batman Returns. The second Batman film from the Tim Burton era, it came out in 1992 starring Michael Keaton as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Danny DeVito as the Penguin, Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman/Selina Kyle and Christopher Walken as Max Shreck.
This is the continuation from 1989's Batman, bringing back Michael Keaton as the hero. The movie takes us back to Gotham, one would think that after the Joker's mayhem in the previous movie live would be calm in the city... but since when has Gotham been known for its calmness?
Synopsis
Long story short, the Cobblepot wealthy family had a baby which was deformed so they simply ditched the baby by throwing him on a river, he ended up in the sewers... a pretty dark way to begin any movie.
33 years later, at the time where the movie takes place, the baby all grown up is now known as the penguin and wants to know who he really is.
He kidnaps Max Shreck, who is a well known respectful and powerful business man, the penguin blackmails him, he can destroy Max's reputation because he knows the dirty secrets his company hides. Max helps the penguin to be seen as a misunderstood hero by the city by making it look as if the penguin saved a kidnapped baby.
Meanwhile, Selina Kyle, who is Max's secretary, also finds out about the company's secrets, Max's Power plant has been stealing energy from other places and also has been an environmental hazard.
To hide his secret, Max kills Selina by pushing her down the window, she falls several stories down but surprisingly, a bunch of cats approach her, they start biting and licking her until she opens her eyes, Catwoman has been born, leaving behind the shy personality Selina used to have and now she wants to seek revenge against Max.
The Penguin finds out his real name is Oswald Cobblepot, his story is shared by the media and soon all citizens have sympathy for him thanks to his heartbreaking story. Taking advantage of this newfound popularity, Max convinces Oswald to run for Mayor, that way Oswald would be respected and Max could carry on with his Power plant. But on his batcave, Bruce is researching Oswald and he knows the Penguin is behind the criminals that have been attacking the city under his commands.
Catwoman with a new costume recently hand made out from a leather jacket goes to a mall, one of Max's many business places to destroy it. Batman fights her but she gets away.
Both the Penguin and Catwoman want Batman out of the way to keep going with their plans so they temporary team up. They make Batman seem as the villain by make it look as if he kidnapped and killed a model, the whole city turns against him and trust more in Oswald.
Batman cleans his name and shows the Penguin's true colors to the citizens, after this an angered Penguin plans to kidnap all of Gotham's first born babies and kids while all the parents are at a party hosted by Max, at that party Selina is seen by Bruce, both previously have had encounters because they've felt attracted to each other since they met, there she reveals she's there to kill Max and after a brief talk they discover each one's secret identities because they say things they told each other as Batman and Catwoman.
Bruce leaves to save the children after the Penguin breaks into the party and kidnaps Max... wow, there sure is a lot of kidnapping in this movie... after Batman saves the children the Penguin comes up with yet another plan, this time he sends hundreds of penguins armed with bombs, he wants to blow up the whole city, but yet again his plan is frustrated by Batman, leading him to have a final showdown with the Penguin himself.
While this happens, Catwoman goes to the Penguin's sewer lair where Max is, she is determined to kill the man who killed her first. On the top of that sewer lair, Batman defeats the penguin who falls all the way down, Batman sees Catwoman there and tries to persuade her from not killing Max, but she kills him anyway in a cool and creepy way by electrocuting him with a teaser and a kiss while holding a high tension power structure.
Bruce looks for Selina but she's nowhere to be found, Bruce only finds Max's electrocuted corpse.
Later Bruce is seen being driven by Alfred through the city, Batman may had won but it doesn't feel like a victory, Bruce lost his love interest, although he gets hope when he gets a glimpse of a shadow that looks a lot like Catwoman, but when he goes to look for her he finds himself in an empty alley where the only company he gets is from a cat which he carries in his arms and goes back to his car, on the sky the bat signal can be seen, meaning that the city trusts him again and accepts him as their hero. While we watch at the signal knowing the movie ended, we realize that Catwoman is seeing the signal too, looks like she had 9 lives after all... In fact, she herself makes a recount of the lives she's lost as you can se in video below:
Batman Regresa. El segundo filme de Batman de la era de Tim Burton, salió en 1992 protagonizada por Michael Keaton como Batman/Bruno Díaz, Danny DeVito como el Pingüino, Michelle Pfeiffer como Gatúbela/Selina Kyle y Christopher Walken como Max Shreck.
Es la continuación del Batman de 1989, trayendo de regreso a Michael Keaton como el héroe. La película nos lleva de regreso a Gótica, uno pensaría que después del desastre del Guasón en la película previa la vida sería tranquila en la ciudad... ¿pero desde cuando Ciudad Gótica ha sido conocida por su quietud?
Sinopsis
Para resumir, la acaudalada familia Cobblepot tuvo un bebé que estaba deforme así que simplemente lo desecharon lanzándolo al río, el bebé terminó en las cloacas... una forma algo oscura de iniciar una película.
33 años después, en el momento en que la película toma lugar, el bebé todo crecido es ahora conocido como el Pingüino y quiere saber quien es realmente.
Secuestra a Max Shreck quien es un respetado y bien conocido poderoso hombre de negocios, el Pingüino lo chantajea, puede destruir la reputación de Max por conocer los sucios secretos que oculta su compañía. Max ayuda al Pingüino a ser visto como un héroe poco comprendido por la ciudad al hacer parecer que salva a un bebé secuestrado.
Mientras, Selina Kyle, la secretaria de Max, también descubre los secretos de la compañía, la planta de energía de Max ha estado tomando energía de otros lados y ha sido un peligro ambiental.
Para esconder su secreto, Max asesina a Selina empujándola por una ventana, ella cae varios pisos pero sorpresivamente, un puñado de gatos se acercan, comienzan a morderla y lamerla hasta que abre los ojos, Gatúbela ha nacido, dejando atrás la tímida personalidad que Selina tenía, ahora quiere buscar venganza contra Max.
El Pingüino averigua que su nombre real es Oswald Cobblepot, su historia es compartida por los medios y pronto todos los ciudadanos tienen simpatía por el gracias a su historia desgarradora. Tomando ventaja de su nueva popularidad, Max convence a Oswald de postularse como alcalde, así Oswald podrá ser respetado y Max puede seguir con su planta energética. Pero en su baticueva, Bruno investiga a Oswald y sabe que el Pingüino está detrás de los criminales que han estado atacando a la ciudad bajo sus órdenes.
Gatúbela con su nuevo disfraz recientemente hecho a mano de una chaqueta de cuero va a una tienda, uno de los tantos negocios de Max para destruirlo. Batman pelea con ella pero escapa.
Ambos, el Pingüino y Gatúbela quieren a Batman fuera del camino para seguir con sus planes, por lo que temporalmente hacen equipo. Hacen ver a Batman como el villano haciendo como si el hubiera secuestrado y asesinado a una modelo, toda la ciudad se vuelve en su contra y confían más en Oswald.
Batman limpia su nombre y muestra a los ciudadanos los verdaderos colores del Pingüino, luego de esto un furioso Pingüino planea raptar a todos los primogénitos de Gótica mientras los padres están en una fiesta de Max. En dicha fiesta Selina es vista por Bruno, ambos previamente han tenido encuentros porque se sienten atraídos desde que se conocieron, ahí ella revela que está en el lugar para asesinar a Max y luego de una breve charla descubren sus identidades secretas por decir cosas que se dijeron como Batman y Gatúbela.
Bruno se va para salvar a los niños luego de que el Pingüino irrumpe en la fiesta y secuestra a Max... vaya, si que hay mucho secuestro en esta película... después de que Batman salva a los niños el Pingüino sale con otro plan, esta vez envía a cientos de pingüinos armados con bombas, quiere volar toda la ciudad pero una vez más su plan es frustrado por Batman, llevándolo a tener un enfrentamiento final con el Pingüino en persona.
Mientras esto sucede, Gatúbela va a la guarida del Pingüino en las alcantarillas, donde Max está, está determinada a matar al hombre que la mató primero.
Arriba sobre la guarida, Batman derrota al Pingüino quien cae hasta abajo, Batman ve a Gatúbela y trata de persuadirla de no asesinar a Max, pero lo mata de todos modos en una forma genial y espeluznante al electrocutarlo con un teaser y un beso mientras sostiene una estructura de alta tensión.
Bruno busca a Selina pero no está en ningún sitio, Bruno solo encuentra el cadaver electrocutado de Max.
Después Bruno es visto siendo llevado por Alfred conduciendo por la ciudad, Batman podrá haber ganado pero no se siente como una victoria, Bruno perdió a su interés amoroso, aunque recibe esperanza al tener un vistazo de una sombra que luce mucho como Gatúbela, pero cuando va a buscarla se encuentra solo en un callejón vacío donde la única compañía que obtiene es de un gato al cual carga en brazos para regresar al auto, en el cielo la batiseñal se puede ver, significando que la ciudad confía nuevamente en el y lo acepta como su héroe. Mientras vemos la señal sabiendo que la película acabó, nos damos cuenta que Gatúbela está viendo la señal también, parece que tiene 9 vidas después de todo... Y de hecho, ella misma hace recuento de las vidas que ha perdido como pueden ver en el video abajo:
Why is it my favorite?
First of all, it reminds me of my childhood, not that my childhood was dark, full of creeps and kidnappings everywhere... but because I remember my parents used to take my brother and I to the video store and let us picked movies for the weekend, I was 8 years when this movie came out and had already watched the first movie, which was ok but for me it was kinda boring, so when I watched this second one I wasn't very excited about it but as soon as I met Catwoman she was my favorite.
Since I remember, I've enjoyed watching female role models in movies and tv shows or cartoons, and when I was a child, superhero movies or shows options were only Superman, Batman and the Flash, all of which lacked female leads... I wasn't born on time to watch Linda Carter's Wonderwoman... and it's not like I was a feminist or a girl seeking female empowerment... back then I didn't have concepts for that, it's just that my brother used to dress up as those heroes and I had no one to dress up as, I wanted to be a hero too!... and in a previous post I mentioned how Supergirl became that female hero I was looking for.
¿Por qué es mi favorita?
Antes que nada, me recuerda a mi niñez, no que mi infancia fuera oscura, llena de fenómenos y secuestros por todos lados... sino que recuerdo que mis padres solían llevarnos a mi hermano y a mi al video club y nos dejaban elegir películas para el fin de semana, yo tenía 8 años cuando la película salió y ya había visto la primera la cual estaba bien pero para mi fue algo aburrida, así que cuando vi la segunda no estaba tan emocionada pero tan pronto conocí a Gatúbela ella fue mi favorita.
Desde que recuerdo, he disfrutado ver modelos a seguir femeninos en películas y shows de tv o caricaturas, y cuando era niña, las opciones de películas o shows de super héroes eran solo Superman, Batman y Flash, los cuales carecían de estelares femeninos... no nací a tiempo para haber visto a la Mujer Maravilla de Linda Carter... y no es que era una feminista o una niña buscando empoderamiento femenino... en ese entonces ni siquiera tenía conceptos de eso, es solo que mi hermano se solía disfrazar como esos héroes y yo no tenía a nadie para disfrazarme como ella, ¡yo quería ser una super heroína también!... y en un post previo mencioné como Supergirl fue la héroe femenina que estaba buscando.
The people that know me now, know that I'm a cat person, and probably they assume I like Catwoman because of that, but back then I didn't even know I was a cat person, so my taste in pets has nothing to do with why she's my favorite character and why I like this Batman movie.
When I watched this again as a grown up, I liked how not everything is black and white, the hero isn't always sure of himself, the villain has all the right to hold a grudge against society, the charismatic person is a manipulative selfish man, and I liked the ambiguity of Selina/Catwoman, she isn't good or evil but leads herself by her own vision of things.
In spite of being fiction it reflects how society acts, as an unwritten rule the freak is usually rejected and feared, the one who only wants to help and makes things better gets hardly judged without giving him time to explain himself after one mistake or misunderstanding, the powerful man wants more and more power and doesn't care who he has to step on to get it, and the woman who raises her fist after facing abuse is pointed as crazy. It doesn't matter if it was 1992 or if it's 2023... we still act that way.
Back as a child, this movie taught me that is okay to be different as long as you don't lose your mind because of it, if you're a creepy penguin human hybrid you can get accepted if you show you're not evil... just don't mess it up by wanting to destroy the city because deep down all you wanted was to manipulate everyone; also if you're a woman whose boss doesn't respect you at all, and treats you as if your life is meaningless, it's okay to raise your voice and make him regret mistreating you... but don't let him murder you because I highly doubt anyone would receive mystical kitten first aid to come back to life.
Quienes me conocen ahora, saben que soy una persona de gatos, y probablemente asumen que me gusta Gatúbela por eso, pero en ese tiempo ni siquiera sabía que yo era una persona gatuna, así que mi gusto en mascotas no tiene nada que ver con el por qué ella es mi personaje favorito y porqué me gusta esta película de Batman.
Cuando la volví a ver ya grande, me gustó que no todo es blanco y negro, el héroe no siempre es tan seguro de sí mismo, el villano tiene todo el derecho de tener rencor a la sociedad, el carismático es un egoísta manipulador, y me gustó la ambigüedad de Selina/Gatúbela, no es buena ni mala sino que se rige por su propia visión de las cosas.
A pesar de ser ficción refleja cómo actúa la sociedad, como una regla no escrita el fenómeno es usualmente rechazado y temido, el que solo quiere ayudar y hacer las cosas mejor es duramente juzgado sin darle tiempo de explicarse luego de un error o malentendido, el hombre poderoso quiere más y más poder y no le importa a quien pisotea para obtenerlo, y la mujer que levanta el puño luego de enfrentar abuso es señalada como loca. No importa si era 1992 o si es 2023... aún actuamos así.
De niña, esta película me enseñó que está bien ser diferente siempre y cuando no pierdas tu cabeza por ello, si eres un aterrador híbrido pingüino humano puedes ser aceptado si muestras que no eres malvado... solo no lo arruines con querer destruir la ciudad porque en el fondo todo lo que querías era manipular a todos; también si eres una mujer cuyo jefe no te respeta del todo, y te trata como si tu vida no importara, está bien alzar tu voz y hacerlo arrepentirse de tratarte mal... pero no dejes que te asesine porque dudo mucho que alguien reciba primeros auxilios místicos gatunos para regresar a la vida.
And that was Batman Returns, my favorite Batman movie and all because of Catwoman 🤣... It would have been great if Tim Burton had continued with his ideas, I watched in a curiosities video of this movie that it was supposed to be Harvey instead of Max and when Catwoman electrocuted him, he would survive but having half of his face deformed, becoming then in the villain 2 face, and him and Catwoman would had appeared in the third Batman's movie directed by Burton... but merchandise had other plans and wanted a more toy maker movie and they gave us a colorful Batman Forever.
Y eso fue Batman Regresa, mi película favorita de Batman y todo por Gatúbela 🤣... Habría sido genial si Tim Burton hubiera continuado con sus ideas, ví en un video de curiosidades de esta película, que se suponía iba a estar Harvey en lugar de Max y cuando Gatúbela lo electrocutara él habría sobrevivido pero teniendo la mitad de su cara deformada, convirtiéndose así en el villano 2 caras, y el junto con Gatúbela hubieran aparecido en la tercera película de Batman dirigida por Burton... pero mercadotecnia tenía otros planes y querían una película más hacedora de juguetes y nos dieron un colorido Batman Eternamente.
