Apple Betty Day + Día de Apple Betty [Eng+Spa]

It's a rainy day, and that's normal weather at this time of year, at least in my tropical country. I like light rain, and I know how necessary it is for life, but destructive storms are something that terrifies me, and that's exactly what we have outside the window of my house. I hope that not too many disasters happen due to this heavy rain.

In these climates, I really like to drink something hot (Chocolate or coffee) and a sweet snack, although that's because I love sweet things and the weather serves as an excuse. Although it is true that when there are cold and rainy climates, it is normal to consume more food. That led me to discuss the subject with a friend who has lived in the United States for a couple of decades, and he told me that there was the National Day of a #dessert that he found interesting.

Today is Apple Betty Day.

I think the full name of the dessert would be more like ‘Apple Brown Betty’, because this dessert, which resembles a pudding, is a variation of the traditional Brown Betty, which can also be prepared with berries or pears.

Anyway, the point is that it is a sweet that we can place in the United States from the 19th century, although I think it may be an evolution of other sweets that already existed from its time as a colony of the British Empire. I mention the 19th century because that is when there is a record of the publication of the first recipe for Brown Betty (1864), and in the specific case of the version that is celebrated today #AppleBetty, the oldest recipe on record is from 1877.

This is a dessert that I have never eaten before, and it seems that where my friend lives it is quite popular.

In my friend's case, this matter also has a somewhat political tone, since it is about the fact that this was the favorite dessert of Ronald Reagan and Nancy Reagan while they were in the White House, during their government in the 1980s.

In general, I avoid political topics, and more so when I know that there is a presidential election process almost at hand on that side of the world. But, my friend's mention caught my attention and that is why I decided to comment on this dish.

I found some recipes, and several of them seem easy to make, although I doubt (unfortunately) that I will soon get to work on making any of these recipes.

Anyway, I suppose it can always be on one of my to-do lists to cook and eat at some point in the future.

Estoy en un día de lluvias, y ese es un clima normal en este tiempo del año, al menos en mi país tropical. Me agrada la lluvia ligera, y sé lo necesaria que es para la vida, pero las tormentas destructivas son algo que me aterra y es justamente eso lo que tenemos fuera de la ventana de mi casa. Espero que no pasen demasiados desastres debido a esta fuerte lluvia.

En estos climas, bien me gusta tomar algo caliente (Chocolate o café) y un aperitivo dulce, aunque eso es porque me encantan las cosas dulces y el clima me sirve de excusa. Aunque es cierto que cuando hay climas fríos y de lluvias es normal consumir mayor cantidad de comida. Eso me llevó a comentar el tema con un amigo que vive en Estados Unidos desde hace un par de décadas, y él me comentó que allá era el Día Nacional de un #postre que le pareció interesante.

Es el Día de Apple Betty.

Creo que el nombre completo del postre sería más bien ‘Apple Brown Betty’, porque este postre, que se asemeja a un pudin, es una variante del tradicional Brown Betty, que puede prepararse también con bayas o peras.

En fin, que la cuestión es que es un dulce que podemos ubicar en los Estados Unidos a partir del siglo XIX, aunque creo que puede ser una evolución de otros dulces que ya existían desde su época como colonia del Imperio Británico. Menciono el siglo XIX porque es cuando se tiene registro de la publicación de la primera receta de Brown Betty (1864), y en el caso específico de la versión que se celebra hoy, la receta más antigua que se tiene registrada es de 1877.

Este es un postre que no he comido nunca antes, y parece que por donde vive mi amigo es algo bastante popular.

En el caso de mi amigo, este asunto tiene también un tinte un tanto político, pues se trata de que este era el postre favorito de Ronald Reagan y Nancy Reagan mientras estuvieron en la Casa Blanca, durante su gobierno en la década de los años 80 del siglo XX.

En general evito los temas políticos, y más cuando sé que hay un proceso de elección presidencial casi en puerta por aquel lado del mundo. Pero, me llamó la atención la mención del amigo y por eso decidí comentar acerca de este platillo.

Encontré algunas recetas, y varias de ellas parecen fáciles de realizar, aunque dudo (por desgracia) que me ponga en un tiempo breve a trabajar para elaborar alguna de estas recetas.

En fin, supongo que siempre puede quedar en una de mis listas de cosas pendientes para cocinar y comer en algún momento del futuro.
