It all started with a dream, a very disjointed one, but putting it together showed me a story that I want to share.
In any city, there is an underground train, it is ending on Friday afternoon. A young teenager is sitting in a seat a little away from the other few passengers in a subway car. In front of her there is, standing, a man of appearance... let's just say that the man is ugly.
The man is middle-aged, chubby body, unattractive face, rough features, short limbs... he doesn't even have a face that seems to smile much, he is honestly ugly. The young girl is arguing with the man, and when the other passengers begin to worry, the teenager jumped up and pressed an emergency button on one of the pillars of the car. The alarm sounded everywhere, the train arrived at the next station and two men from the train staff entered, almost running.

Between cries, the young woman pointed at the man and accused him of making indecent propositions to her. The man, meanwhile, was agitated and shouted that this was false. But with his bad appearance, and the looks of the rest of the few passengers, the situation led to the workers taking him by their arms and handing him over to the police who were at the train station.
It is curious, but there was a new protocol for dealing with these cases. A measure created to respond more completely. So both the complainant and the accused were taken to a police station that was a short distance away. All this under the gaze of a growing number of public, who took photos and videos to share the news.
The next day, a couple of worried parents came looking for the teenager. They were traveling in another city and found out about the whole thing over the phone. But, although it sounds strange, the officials were holding the young woman for examinations and evaluations. They assured them that it was part of the new police action protocol for these cases.

When the police station manager came to meet with her parents, they brought the young woman and the man she accused. The parents were outraged and ready to hit the man immediately, but the police stopped them.
“You degenerate, I should beat you up.” The father was furious, while her mother hugged her daughter and spoke to her in a low voice.
“But it's all a lie, I didn't do anything” the ugly man defended himself, he looked like he had already been beaten. “She was the one who started talking to me in the car and was bothering me, until I yelled at her, and that's when everything got weird.”
What the man said did not seem credible, in fact, it was not credible at all.
Suddenly, a police officer came in and gave the manager additional information.
“Okay, everyone, calm down.” The boss spoke with authority, activated a nearby screen, and turned to speak to everyone in the meeting room where they were. “We have to review this, there is a new surveillance system in the train cars. There is an increase in problems, so recently new cameras were installed, so we have video recordings…”
“Why didn't they take her out sooner? “They have been delaying us.” The father complained seriously.
“Several things happened, in addition to the fact that we had to attend to related incidents.” The boss looked upset, but it was strange, because he didn't look like he was upset with the defendant. “You better watch and listen to this abridged version.”

The teenager seemed agitated, but as soon as they saw the video, they understood why. It could be seen, and heard, that she was the one who spoke to the ugly man first. She teased him and started to irritate him, until he exploded, and she jumped up to hit the alarm button. Everything showed that the accusation was false.
“As you can see, we have a problem on our hands. Her daughter has made a false complaint, given a statement that contains perjury, led to an inappropriate expenditure of public money, and harmed a citizen who did not have to go through all of this.” The boss was very upset.
“She is a little girl, this is a prank. Surely it was nothing more than a bad joke.” The mother quickly tried to justify.
“Even so, I must ask the gentleman if he wishes to join a lawsuit against the young woman and her parents, who are legally responsible for her.” The boss seemed determined not to let the matter slip.
“Wait, what lawsuit?” The father was not satisfied. “It's good that we give him an apology, but a lawsuit is an exaggeration.”
"Exaggeration?" The boss was visibly in a worse mood. “Sir, I have bad news for you, so you better take it easy.” He looked at the ugly man and spoke to him in a softer tone. “When you were arrested, there were several posts on social media. Your wife found out about it, and she fainted while she was visiting her mother's house. When she fell, she hurt her shoulder, and it seems that it was serious. Your two children were at the weekend school camp, but, somehow, the other children saw the news video and recognized that you were their father. They fought.”
The ugly man was sitting up, but he was turning pale.
“It seems that your coworkers and your boss don't like you, because just last night a statement came out from his company saying that you were fired for this scandal.” The boss continued explaining. “In addition, I must apologize for our failure, because we put him in a low-risk shared cell, but some comment reached the ears of the other detainees and they beat you. The couple of men who attacked you are small-time thieves, they usually work without violence, but one of them is the father of a girl who was recently born, and the other has an adopted daughter that he has cared for years. When they heard that he was accused of attacking a girl, they became violent. ”
“I told them the truth” the ugly man seemed lost, it even seemed that his mind was a little slower.
“That doesn't help when these accusations are made, but it was good that the guards took you out quickly, and we put you in isolation.” The boss was really embarrassed, he was beginning to notice that the ugly man has not of a very alert mind. “This is why the investigation was complicated, we should have had the recordings faster, but they contacted us to give us news about his family and work. Now your wife is leaving the hospital, your children are suspended from school for hitting their classmates, your youngest son ran and fell into a nearby river, almost drowned and was dragged for about 100 meters.”

The boss watched as the man's face became worse and worse.
“So now his youngest son also has a very bad cold. With all this, I have to ask you if wants to join the lawsuit.” The boss left the question open.
“Wait a minute, even though all of this is serious, you can't blame my daughter for everything.” The father was trying to find a way out.
“True, at most, she owes him an apology, but everything else cannot be put on her.” The mother argued, too. The teenager was frozen, she never imagined that everything would get so complicated.
“Even if this man doesn't sue them, the department has decided to file a public lawsuit for giving us a false statement, causing misuse of resources, mobilizing the police unnecessarily, and that's just for starters.”
“How come this time he came out like this?” The teenager lost her mind, held her forehead and moaned.
The boss looked at her with surprise, there was no regret in the young woman's voice, there was only annoyance. But one very important detail was noticeable: the chief turned to look at another police officer. “Find out the sealed juvenile files, call the prosecutors and judges, and get them to open them for investigation.”
After a while, in a courtroom in that city. A group of a dozen teenagers were accompanied by their legal representatives and lawyers. The judge was impressed. The case showed that the teenagers had formed a kind of club or brotherhood, which, as a game, selected men of mediocre or ugly appearance, and had them arrested by the police. Everything exploded because of a single case, and thanks to the new surveillance system.
But, what most bothered all the officials was that these teenagers and their parents did not show any remorse. Because of people like this, future cases of complaints, which could be real, would be suspected of perjury. These young girls had hurt many men, but the damage they did to REAL victims in the future was even worse.
This strange story ends with a bit of an open ending, but you can already imagine where the final situation is going.
Vigilancia (Cuento).
Todo comenzó con un sueño, uno muy inconexo, pero al armarlo me mostró una historia que quiero compartir.
En una ciudad cualquiera, hay un tren subterráneo, está terminando la tarde del día viernes. Una joven adolescente está sentada en un asiento un poco alejado de los otros escasos pasajeros dentro de un vagón del subterráneo. Frente a ella hay, de pie, un hombre de apariencia… simplemente digamos que el hombre es feo.
El hombre es de edad mediana, cuerpo rechoncho, cara poco agraciada, facciones toscas, extremidades cortas... ni siquiera tiene una cara que parezca sonreír mucho, es sinceramente feo. La jovencita está discutiendo con el hombre, y cuando los demás pasajeros empiezan a preocuparse, la adolescente se levantó de un salto y pulsó un botón de emergencia en uno de los pilares del vagón. La alarma sonó por todas partes, el tren llegó a la siguiente estación y entraron, casi corriendo, dos hombres del personal del tren.

Entre llantos, la joven señaló al hombre y lo acusó de estar haciéndole proposiciones indecentes. El hombre, mientras tanto, se agitaba y gritaba que eso era falso. Pero con su mal aspecto, y las miradas del resto de los pocos pasajeros, la situación llevó a que los trabajadores lo tomaran de brazos y lo entregaran a la policía que estaba en la estación del tren.
Es curioso, pero había un nuevo protocolo de atención a estos casos. Una medida creada para responder de manera más completa. Así que tanto la denunciante como el denunciado fueron trasladados a una comisaría de policía que estaba a corta distancia. Todo esto bajo la mirada de una creciente cantidad de público, que tomó fotos y videos para compartir la novedad.
Al día siguiente, una pareja de preocupados padres llegaron a buscar a la adolescente. Estaban de viaje en otra ciudad y se enteraron de todo el asunto por teléfono. Pero, aunque suena raro, los funcionarios retenían a la joven para hacerle exámenes y evaluaciones. Les aseguraban que era parte del nuevo protocolo de acción policial para estos casos.

Cuando el encargado de la estación de policía llegó a reunirse con los padres, trajeron a la joven y al hombre acusado por ella. Los padres estaban indignados y dispuestos a golpear al hombre de inmediato, pero los policías les detuvieron.
“Degenerado, debería darte una paliza.” El padre estaba furioso, mientras la madre abrazaba a su hija y le hablaba en voz baja.
“Pero todo es mentira, no hice nada” el hombre feo se defendía, tenía la apariencia de que lo habían golpeado ya. “Ella fue la que me comenzó a hablar en el vagón y me estaba molestando, hasta que le grité y fue cuando todo se puso raro.”
Lo que decía el hombre no parecía creíble, en verdad, no era creíble para nada.
De pronto, entró una agente de policía y le dio al encargado una información adicional.
“Bien, todos se calma” El jefe habló con autoridad, activó una pantalla cercana y se volvió para hablar con todos los de la sala de reunión en donde estaban. “Tenemos que revisar esto, hay un nuevo sistema de vigilancia en los vagones de los trenes. Hay un incremento de problemas, así que hace poco se instalaron nuevas cámaras, así que tenemos grabaciones con vídeo…”
“¿Por qué no la sacaron antes? Nos han estado retrasando.” El padre se quejó seriamente.
“Pasaron varias cosas, además de que tuvimos que atender incidentes relacionados.” El jefe se veía molesto, pero era raro, porque no parecía que estuviera molesto con el acusado. “Es mejor que miren y escuchen esta versión resumida.”

La adolescente se mostraba agitada, pero en cuanto vieron el vídeo entendieron el motivo. Se pudo ver, y escuchar, que ella fue la que le hablo primero al hombre feo. Ella lo molestó y comenzó a irritarlo, hasta que él explotó y ella saltó para tocar el botón de alarma. Todo mostraba que la acusación era falsa.
“Como pueden ver, tenemos un problema entre manos. Su hija ha hecho una denuncia falsa, dio una declaración que tiene perjurio, nos llevó a un gasto de dinero público inadecuado, y perjudicó a un ciudadano que no tenía que pasar por todo esto.” El jefe estaba muy molesto.
“Ella es una niña, esto es una travesura. De seguro que no era más que una broma.” La madre trató de justificar rápidamente.
“Incluso así, debo preguntarle al señor si desea sumarse a una demanda contra la joven y sus padres, que son sus responsables legales.” El jefe parecía decidido a no dejar escapar el asunto.
“Un momento, ¿cómo que demanda?” El padre no estaba conforme. “Está bien que le demos una disculpa, pero una demanda es una exageración.”
“¿Exageración?” El jefe estaba visiblemente de peor humor. “Señor, le tengo malas noticias, así que es mejor que se lo tome con calma.” Miro al hombre feo y le hablo con un tono más suave. “Cuando lo arrestaron, hubo varias publicaciones en redes sociales. Su esposa se enteró por eso, y se desmayó mientras estaba de visita en la casa de su madre, con la caída se lastimó el hombro y parece que fue serio. Sus dos hijos estaban en el campamento escolar de fin de semana, pero, de alguna manera, los demás niños vieron el vídeo de la noticia y reconocieron que usted era el padre de ellos.”
El hombre feo estaba sentado, pero se estaba poniendo pálido.
“Parece que sus compañeros de trabajo, y su jefe, no le tienen aprecio, porque anoche mismo salió un comunicado de su empresa diciendo que usted estaba despedido por este escándalo.” El jefe siguió explicando. “Además de que debo disculparme por nuestra falla, porque lo pusimos en una celda compartida de baja peligrosidad, pero algún comentario llegó a los oídos de los otros detenidos y lo golpearon. La pareja de hombres que lo atacaron son ladrones de poca monta, suelen trabajar sin violencia, pero uno de ellos es padre de una niña que nació hace poco, y el otro tiene una hija adoptiva que cuida desde hace años. Cuando escucharon que era acusado de atacar a una niña, se pusieron violentos.”
“Les dije la verdad” el hombre feo parecía perdido, incluso parecía que su mente era un poco lenta.
“Eso no sirve cuando se dan estas acusaciones, pero fue bueno que los guardias lo sacaran rápido y lo pasáramos a aislamiento.” El jefe estaba en verdad avergonzado, comenzaba a notar que el hombre feo no era de una mente muy despierta. “Es por todo esto que se nos complicó la investigación, deberíamos haber tenido las grabaciones más rápido, pero nos contactaron para darnos noticias de su familia y trabajo. Ahora su esposa está saliendo del hospital, sus hijos están suspendidos de la escuela por golpear a sus compañeros, su hijo menor salió corriendo y cayó en un río cercano, casi se ahoga y lo arrastró por unos 100 metros.”

El jefe veía como la cara del hombre se volvía cada vez peor.
“Así que ahora su hijo menor está también resfriado muy fuerte. Con todo esto, es que le tengo que preguntar si se quiere sumar a la demanda.” El jefe dejó la pregunta abierta.
“Un momento, a pesar de que todo eso es grave, no pueden culpar a mi hija de todo.” El padre estaba tratando de hallar una salida.
“Cierto, como mucho, ella le debe una disculpa, pero todo lo demás no se le puede cargar a ella.” La madre argumentó también. La adolescente estaba congelada, nunca imaginó que todo se complicaría tanto.
“Incluso si este señor no los demanda, el departamento ha decidido presentar una demanda pública por habernos dado una declaración falsa, haber causado un mal uso de recursos, movilizar a la policía innecesariamente, y eso es solo para comenzar.”
“¿Cómo es que esta vez salió así?” La adolescente perdió la cabeza, se sujetó la frente y gimió.
El jefe la miró con sorpresa, no había arrepentimiento en la vos de la joven, solamente había molestia. Pero se notaba un detalle muy impórtate, el jefe volteó a mirar a otro policía. “Averigua los expedientes juveniles sellados, llama a los fiscales y jueces, consigue que los abran para investigación.”
Luego de un tiempo, en una sala de una corte de esa localidad. Un grupo de una docena de adolescentes estaban acompañados de sus representantes legales y abogados. El juez estaba impresionado. El caso mostraba que las adolescentes habían hecho una especie de club o hermandad, que, a manera de juego, seleccionaba hombres de apariencia mediocre, o fea, y les llevaban a ser detenidos por la policía. Todo estalló por un solo caso, y gracias al nuevo sistema de vigilancia.
Pero, lo que más molestaba a todos los funcionarios, era que estas adolescentes y sus padres, no mostraban ningún arrepentimiento. Por gente como esta, es que los futuros casos de denuncias, que podrían ser reales, serían puestos en sospecha de perjurio. Estas jovencitas habían hecho daño a muchos hombres, pero era aún peor el daño que le hacían a las víctimas reales que hubiera en un futuro.
Este relato raro termina con un final un poco abierto, pero ya puedes imaginar para donde va la situación final.
