Jake blew into his gloved hands and surveyed the sunny clear day. His snowmobile was his noble steed in this icy world he found himself in. Even with his snowsuit and heat warmers, it was cold. The day had begun with a flurry of activity on what could be described as a cross between a tundra and a stunted ice forest. It was almost midday and he wasn't interested in spending more time in this place.
Jake packed up his tent and bedroll and rigged them on the back of his snowmobile. It was time to move on. He had camped out and broken through the ice to fish and gather some water. Jake packed his catch and filtered water bottle in the front boot of the snowmobile, kicked the start and pulled the throttle and was on his way.
Humans had found themselves in a pickle as the one world they inhabited became more polluted by the year. Attempts had been made to establish colonies on Mars in the early 2050s, but this had been unsuccessful. Humans accepted their fate on an increasingly frosty and hostile world and adaptations began.
Climate changes constantly. It has always changed, and around the year 2200 an ice age emerged. The world Jake inhabits is cold, glacially cold and filled with stunted boreal forests, frosted plains, tundras and wastelands filled with snow. Humans spent eons in an ice age prior to this, and now it was time for another one.
Jake used a snowmobile to traverse the endless wastelands punctuated by picturesque tundras. He often paused to watch the Sun rise and set and enjoyed it. Water and food was scarce in the wastelands but as the human population decreased naturally it became more balanced and stable.
Snowmobiles and skis filled the transportation gap in this new world. Cities thrived in the Southern Hemisphere but it is significantly cooler there than it is in 2025. The human population stands at around 250 million and this was the result of a lack of interest and resources that causes humans to thrive.
Jake made it to the next watering hole. He was alone again in the wilderness wasteland and as he unpacked his snowmobile, he once again admired a sunrise on the world he was born into.
