This week I'm going to show you how to play when faced Born Again ruleset. What to look for, what are benefits of this ruleset, how to take advantage of it, what cards go well with it and finally a showcase battle featuring this ruleset.
First of all lets see what this ruleset is all about. How to take advantage of it and what you need to pay attention to.
This is a ruleset where some abilities really get to shine, like Martyr and Scavenger, because every monster that gets killed also gets revived just to get killed again.
In order to take advantage of this, try to place a Monster with Martyr in the position where it will get targeted by enemy monsters, like first or last position (depending on the ruleset).
Monsters with Scavenger ability have high usability in this ruleset, because they get their health buffed with every death, they end up with double digit health points.
You have to be careful, because when the monster gets resurrected it has only 1 health point, and becomes a sitting duck.
That is why the ability that can make your Monsters shine in this ruleset is Bloodlust, because you can get easy kills when monsters get resurrected.
Another valuable ability in this ruleset is Void Armor on a high Armor Monster, because it won't be so easy to kill after it gets resurrected. Generally I prefer high Armor Monsters over high Health ones in this ruleset.
Now let's get into the battle featuring Born Again ruleset. I will show you a battle with this last mentioned strategy - a Void Armor Monster as a main target.
The battle had Target Practice in addition to Born Again, and Death splinter has amazing monster just perfect for this role - Djinn Muirat. It has Magic attack, so it will be the main target for Ranged and Magic attacks (reflect them back, by the way), it has Void Armor, so it will have to take much more damage to die, and it is a perfect resurrect target.
Death splinter also has an amazing summoner - Astral Entity who perfectly fits into this whole story.

I will try to explain each part of the ruleset, so you get the better understanding what was I thinking when I picked my line-up.
I expected my opponent will go either heavy with Ranged/Magic attack because of the Target Practice ruleset, or heavy melee to avoid the Snipe.
I was covered in both cases, placed a heavy tank in the front and Retribution monster in the back (covered Melee that way), and gave them a perfect target for Snipe.
In the end my opponent went with Dragon splinter with Earth, armed with Magic and Ranged monsters - just what I wanted.
You can see the line-up from both teams in battle screenshot right after this section. I will go through my line-up and explain why was each card picked and put in that spot.
Death splinter Legendary summoner that costs 6 mana. He buffs the team with
Dodge ability and reduces enemy Armor by 2, he also resurrects one Monster.
-2 Armor to enemy Monsters. Dodge - Has an increased chance (25%) of evading Melee or Ranged attacks. Resurrect - When a friendly Monster dies it is brought back to life with 1 Health. This ability can only trigger once per battle. I chose this summoner because I get one additional Resurrect, on top of Dodge and reduced enemy Armor.

Amazing Neutral splinter Legendary Rebellion card. Costs 11 mana and has 3 Melee attack and a set of awesome abilities.
Shield - Reduced damage from Melee and Ranged attacks. Armored Strike - Gains ADDITIONAL Melee attack using its Armor stat. True Strike - This monster's attacks cannot miss. Repair - Restores some armor to the friendly Monster whose armor has taken the most damage. I picked this monster as a tank because it is simply AWESOME. All of his abilities work together in perfect synergy. |
Death splinter Common card. Costs 4 mana and has 3 Melee attack.
Reach - It allows Monsters to attack from the second position on the team. Affliction - When this Monster hits a target, it has a chance of applying Affliction on the target causing it to be unable to be healed. I picked this monster to be the second tank, because of the Reach and Affliction abilities, to stop the healing of their tank.

Death splinter Legendary card. Costs 9 mana, has 3 Magic attack.
Void Armor - Magic attacks hit this Monster's armor before its Health. Knock Out - Does double damage when attacking an enemy that is stunned. Giant Killer - Does double damage against targets that cost 10 or more mana. Magic Reflect - When hit with Magic damage, does reduced Magic damage back to the attacker. I picked this monster to be the target of Snipe attack from enemy Monsters. This is the Monster that will get resurrected the most.

Death splinter Epic card. Costs 6 mana, has no attack.
Flying - Has an increased chance (25%) of evading Melee or Ranged attacks from Monsters who do not have the Flying ability. Weaken - Reduces the Health (-1) of all enemy Monsters. Silence - Reduces the Magic Attack of all enemy Monsters. I picked this monster to reduce enemy health and magic attack. It will get Weapons Training from Skok Duskblight.

Death splinter Legendary card. Costs 8 mana, and has 2 Magic attack.
Weapons Training - Adjacent monsters gain this Monster's attack if they have no attacks themselves (max 3). Fury - This Monster does double damage to targets with the Taunt ability. Resurrect - When a friendly Monster dies it is brought back to life with 1 Health. This ability can only trigger once per battle. I picked this monster for additional Resurrect and to give Will-O-Wisp Weapons Training.

Death splinter Legendary card. Costs 8 mana, has 4 Magic attack with Blast.
Blast - Does additional damage to Monsters adjacent to the target Monster. Reflection Shield - This Monster is immune to all indirect, or reflected damage (Blast, Thorns, Return Fire, or Magic Reflect). Redemption - When this Monster dies, it does 1 damage to all enemy monsters. I picked this monster because of its high Magic attack and Redemption, so if my opponent has Sneak monster they will get Redemption damage if they kill it.

This was quite a long battle, because of all the Resurrects happening.
In round one no one died, but I seriously damaged his Taunt monster in the back and his tank in the front. Opponent's monsters got their damage reflected back or mitigated by the armor.
In second round his Mycelic Slipspawn died (and died again), while his tank was barely standing with 1 HP. My Djinn Muirat died for the first time, and got resurrected for the first time.
In this round his tank died first time, while my Djinn Muirat died again, and got resurrected again. His Queen Mycelia killed herself off by reflected magic damage.
Round four, his tank is gone for good now, and so is Queen Mycelia. Left with only 3 monsters in the team, my opponent can just sit and watch his team fall one by one.
I though it will all end in fifth round, but Runic Skyclaw managed to survive, just to see the sixth round. My Djinn Muirat died for the last time, finally.
Last round, opponent's last monster alive, and he can't fire from the first position.

This was round 1 Tournament battle of Victor's Modern Gold Invitational Tournament, which was won by @zaku, one of the best players in the game. Unfortunately I didn't make it to 2nd round, as the prizes for top spots in these tournaments are nice pile of SPS.
As I already mentioned at the start of this post, there are a couple of different approaches to Born Again ruleset, mainly depending on the other rulesets in the battle. You might notice I like to use Astral Entity in this ruleset quite often, because of his additional Resurrect. You can combine it with Martyr Monsters, Scavenger, or Redemption. If you are interested, you can watch my other battles where I used some of the previously mentioned strategies.
This was a battle where I combined Scavenger Monsters in the back, with Redemption Monster in the front. He got killed a couple of times and got resurrected back to life just to get killed again. Along the way damaging enemy Monsters while my guys stacked up on health. Funny combo, and very effective.
This was a battle where I used a Monster with Martyr ability in the front, with amazing Tatiana Blayde behind it who gets buffed and then buffed even more with every kill by its Bloodlust. Notice her stats at the end of the battle! 😍
In this battle I used a Monster with Martyr ability in the front again, with Void Dragon behind and THREE additional Resurrect monsters. Void Dragon got buffed so much that the opponents couldn't hit him more then couple of times by the end of the battle.
This battle is an example how to make use of high armor Monster (Ever-Hungry Skull) who was in the last position in Super Sneak ruleset against mostly melee team.
This last battle was great fun because the enemy team couldn't get a hit on my buffed Nightmare. It got hit once and got buffed to 17 speed and it was game-over! 😆
