Hello everyone! Pozdrav svima!
This week I'm going to show you how to play when faced Broken Arrows ruleset.
First of all lets see what this ruleset is all about. How to take advantage of it and what you need to pay attention to.
This includes Monsters with 2 types of attack (which include Ranged).
This is a simple ruleset that makes Ranged attack Monsters unavailable in the battle. For me, personally, that means no Venari Marksrat - my favorite Ranged Monster and his Martyr
ability. 😆
There are two abilities that are important here - Thorns
and Magic Reflect
, as you're expecting either Melee or Magic attack. And whenever you use one of those abilities always try to get Amplify
in there too, to increase that reflected damage by 1.
Other then that, there is no special trick for this ruleset, just try to anticipate if your opponent will use Melee or Magic attack and try to adjust your line-up accordingly, or impose your own will and make them adjust to you.
This is what I did in my battle featuring Broken Arrows ruleset. I didn't look how to mitigate opponent's attacks, but I hit him hard with heavy damage dealers.
I didn't try anything fancy with Thorns
or Magic Reflect
(not that there is anything wrong with that approach), but I saw I had enough mana to push out the damage dealers I wanted and crush my opponent fast and furious (no pun intended).

I will try to explain each part of the ruleset, so you get the better understanding what was I thinking when I picked my line-up.
Since we had Aimless ruleset, I wanted to use as little Magic attack as possible, to avoid getting my damage spread around. Instead I focused on Melee attack hoping they will all attack the same target and get them down quickly.
My opponent went with more sustainability and lacked the damage output and his team managed to kill only one Monster in my team.
You can see the line-up from both teams in battle screenshot right after this section. I will go through my line-up and explain why was each card picked and put in that spot.
Water splinter Legendary summoner that costs 6 mana. He buffs the team with
Trample and Reach abilities and adds 2 Health to the team.
+2 Health to friendly Monsters. Trample - When a Monster with Trample hits and kills its target, it will perform another attack on the next Monster on the enemy Team. Reach - Melee attack Monsters with the Reach ability may attack from the second position on the team. I chose this summoner because can get huge amount of damage with Trample and Reach on my 2nd monster.

Amazing Neutral splinter Legendary Rebellion card. Costs 11 mana and has 3 Melee attack and a set of awesome abilities.
Shield - Reduced damage from Melee and Ranged attacks. Armored Strike - Gains ADDITIONAL Melee attack using its Armor stat. True Strike - This monster's attacks cannot miss. Repair - Restores some armor to the friendly Monster whose armor has taken the most damage. I picked this Monster as a tank because it is simply AWESOME. All of his abilities work together in perfect synergy. |
Water splinter Common soulbound reward card. Costs 10 mana and has 4 Melee attack.
Double Strike - Monster attacks twice each round. Piercing - If Melee or Ranged attack damage is in excess of the target's Armor, the remainder will damage the target's Health. I picked this Monster to be the second tank, because the Double Strike and Piercing abilities combined with Trample result in a lot of dead Monsters.

Water splinter Common card. Costs 6 mana, has 5 Melee attack.
Opportunity - Monsters with the Opportunity ability may attack from any position and will target the enemy Monster with the lowest health. Poison - Attacks have a chance to apply poison, which does automatic damage to the target at the beginning of each round after the poison is applied. I picked this Monster because it deals a ton of damage especially when it applies the Poison on enemy Monsters.

Water splinter Legendary card. Costs 7 mana, has 2 Magic attack.
Resurrect - When a friendly Monster dies it is brought back to life with 1 Health. This ability can only trigger once per battle. Inspire - Gives all friendly Monsters +1 Melee attack. Dispel - When this monster hit an enemy, it clears all positive status effects on that enemy. I picked this Monster to buff my Melee attack monsters with additional damage, and resurrects if needed. |
Neutral splinter Rare card. Costs 5 mana, and has 2 Magic attack.
Blast -Does additional damage to Monsters adjacent to the target Monster. Rust - Reduces the Armor of all enemy Monsters. I picked this Monster for additional Blast damage and for his reducing of enemy armor. It would be better if I went with Noa the Just, as he would probably dodge a few attacks.
|
Water splinter Legendary card. Costs 9 mana, has 5 Melee attack.
Weapons Training - Adjacent monsters gain this Monster's attack if they have no attacks themselves (max 3). Opportunity - Monsters with the Opportunity ability may attack from any position and will target the enemy Monster with the lowest health. Shield - educed damage from Melee and Ranged attacks. I picked this Monster because of its high attack and put it in the back to cover Sneak attacks, he would receive less damage because of his Shield and can attack from anywhere because he has Opportunity .

This was quite short battle, only 3 rounds, because of high damage bursts of my team.
In round one my Scavo died, and I waste a resurrect on him, but my Opportunity
Monster manage to kill his Deeplurker and take off half of Nerissa's health.
In round two I get rid of his Tank, his second Tank and finish off Nerissa. The enemy manage to kill my Deeplurker.
In final round it was just a matter of who would get the killing blow, and that honor went to amazing Mantaroth!

This was Modern Ranked battle in middle of Gold 1 league during my futile attempt to reach Diamond league rating to secure Diamond Season chests for next season.
As I already said at the start, there are a couple abilities that are very useful in Broken Arrows ruleset and those are Magic Reflect
and Thorns
. If you are interested, you can watch my other battles where I faced those abilities or rulesets.
This was a battle where we faced Briar Patch ruleset with Broken Arrows so I used a Magic team and expected my opponent will do the same.
This was a battle where I faced Counterspell ruleset, but I combined it with Void
from my summoner and Thorns
on my tank.
