I want to use this medium to greet all great Hivers. How has been your day so far, hope you are all doing good? I'm positive minded that it's all well and fine.
Of course I'm a full time Poultry Farmer but one thing I'm always bordered about is that people feel I only rear Broiler chicken for festive season(like Christmas and new year). Before anyone could even think of that, I always feel within myself that, how can I build a pen that cost nothing less than 100k and best I could get out of it using it to rear birds once in a year(probably when the festive period comes around).
If memory serves me right, this year alone I have reared nothing less than five batches of birds non-stop. Well! I can't say when I have break in between. The only reason why I feel that people rear birds for the festive season is that maybe because November/December marketing pattern is always different in the sense that. The marketing pattern is always wider and we reach out to people at large on different platforms asking them to come and buy. Meanwhile I sell to chicken to frozen and eateries all through the year.
Moreso, while this is happening no farmer would want to miss the profit that festive season brings because you ain't selling on kilo like the other periods of the year that we mostly sell on kilo. But during the festive period, we Farmers always have an edge on price. For example, you can sell a chicken that weighs 4kg with N2,000 pee kg which would amounts to N8,000 but during the festive period you can sell the same kind of N11,000 with the method of weighing with just by lifting the bird with your hands.
This one of the reasons why you will see that chicken are always costly during November and December time because most Farmers are hoarding their birds for festive period.
