Hive Isn't Complicated At All, It's Very Simple... .:. Ph's Shorts 🩳

in #hive-196233 β€’ 7 days ago

I know how many times we hear the same thing over and over again... "Hive is complicated..." "It's hard to explain VESTS, HP, RC, Voting Power, etc." And because of all that, I was (and I'm still until a certain level) obsessed with an idea that we need more time, and more money to invest in educating people about our platform... I even remember the chat with @livinguktaiwan on a similar topic at HiveBeeCon in Krakow, where she probably wanted to "open my eyes" that maybe education (in the way I imagined) would not work...

During the day, I decided that I would not create content (failed! πŸ˜ƒ), but rather would spend reading other authors... Luckily, I got inspired by 2 great posts from 2 great Hivians, @ablaze and @macchiata... So, let me share those posts and what triggered me to write this post...

@ablaze created a post where he was celebrating his 7th anniversary on the chain... He wrote a self-reflection post about his journey, highlights, regrets, and shared some tips for newbies to help them out with their first steps on HIVE... I remembered how many times I wrote posts with similar tips about engaging, supporting others, writing meaningful comments, etc.

On the other side, @macchiata wrote a long recap post of the event that she helped out with organization, how it went, the idea behind it, and some future looks at it... There was one specific part of the post that made me connect it with those "tips" that @ablaze shared in his post...

At the same time, during our contest, some of our participants were still found plagiarizing and using AI, and we sent their work to HW. We want to foster a community where originality and creativity have the utmost place. We do not tolerate abuse and are happy to work with anyone who combats those problems.

From both of these examples, newbies can learn what they should do, and what aren't welcome to do... But... Is it really important to SAY/WRITE these things? I mean, shouldn't certain behavior be obvious and NATURAL? In the end, this is a social media network!

The rules on this network are simple... If you stick to the Golden Rule, you should be perfectly fine!

  • Treat others as you would like others to treat you
  • Do not treat others in ways that you would not like to be treated

It is easy like that!

  • Would you like to see more comments on your posts? Well, go out and engage with others, checking their posts...
  • Would you like to see more meaningful comments on your posts? Well, read other posts to understand the author and his point of view... That will help you to write MEANINGFUL COMMENTS on their posts! When you respect others, they will respect you!
  • Would you like to get more upvotes? Go out and upvote those posts that you READ with your HivePower!
  • Would you like bigger upvotes? Stop powering down all your HP and stop delegating out all your HP, and YOU PICK people who you want to support... Lead by example! Other people will support you if you support others...
  • If you don't have anything to say, don't say it! You should rather skip a day without posting than create a post without value... Don't waste others' time as YOU probably wouldn't like that they waste yours!

There is no sense in continuing this list... You get the point... This is a social media platform, with real people... Appreciate them, communicate with them... You don't want to CHEAT your friends, you don't want to waste others' time...

Be YOU...

Thank you for your time,

--ph--

Did I really say that .. we must revisit out conversation when we meet again

Hehehe... Let's talk about it in Graz again! We are not the same people as we were 2 years ago... πŸ˜ƒ

It's definitely not rocket science, but people be people... Especially if they think there is something in it for them..

It's not.. create a post and engage with people... Isn't that what you expect (and do) on social media? There is no need to overcomplicate it! πŸ™‚

Exactly!

I like and agree with all the points you mentioned! Hehe!

at first, it was such a complicated thing, even for most of social media, we need to be familiarised with all the buttons and the functions and those social media before we can master it. And the thing about originality that might hinder others. as with other social media, they can just copy and paste other content without any care of credit and stuff, and could go unpunished, but here it might get some big downvote.

Other than that, we just need to socialized and have fun. hahaha

Yeah the one that Macchiata doing is so awesome, it shows the interest of many people to Hive here in my country. We also have a big crypto base, but not for hive at the moment.

My girlfriend broke up with me because I quote Linkin Park too much.
But in the end, it doesn’t even matter.

You are maybe not punished by a downvote in the "legacy social media", but you are IGNORED if you are doing it... Not sure which approach is better? Would you like someone to just ignore you, or that he says to you what are you doing wrong? I suppose the answer is not the same for all people... But knowing what you are doing wrong is usually a good thing... It makes you grow...

All in all, you get "punished" for your mistakes... be they deliberate or not... πŸ˜ƒ

Hi Ph1102! ompletely agree with you, especially on the point of keeping quiet if there is nothing to say, something that doesn't waste other people's time. Lately I have been limited with my time and that all I have nothing interesting to share. So in the few moments I have I prefer to read and comment on other posts rather than write something for the sake of writing. Greetings and happy weekend to all of you.

Agree.... πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

I forgot to mention that also goes with the comments... Seeing people FORCING themselves to comment create the same effect as creating a shitpost with 0 value... just timewasting...

I hope you are having a great weekend, too! πŸ’œ

Certainly, sometimes it gives the impression that they have not even read the publication. They see the cover image, the title and infer the content and launch a meaningless comment...triste realidad. Warm greetings from the island.

I see a lot of long time Hivians that didn't grow or their account is the same thing for several years ago. Are they timid not to engage? Do not care? Or just lazy?

People are different and have different priorities... It's impossible to generalize why someone did what... Many got distracted with something else, left the space, and came back when HIVE pumped... It's hard to "recover" when you are taking long breaks... Not just here on HIVE, but in everyone what you are doing...

Well hive is really not easy to understand, take someone from Facebook or Instagram come and start post then gets error "insufficient rc" and goes wtf is that , and that's just the first thing, then they see proposals and think what are those and do I pay where I cast the vote? Then you have witnesses and you don't know from web2 what is that... So it's not hard when you are in, but when you join it is

A simplified interface is probably good to start with. I think new Ecency accounts get RC delegations so they have more room to try things out.

It's impossible to KNOW everything about HIVE, even if you have been here for years... There is always something new that is built on top of it... The thing is that you don't HAVE TO know everything, especially at the beginning... You don't know how exactly your LED TV works, but you are still using it...

I was writing about things when people ask questions...
What should I write? Do I have to comment? Why should I reply to the people who leave comments on my post? etc. The answers to those questions have nothing to do with the tech, or RC, or something else... It's just common sense... But people still ask them and overcomplicate things...

Oh yes well that question as you said are commons sense and shouldn't even be asked 🀣

Those are all good points. People are a bit shortsighted and I think that Hive is a social blockchain. There is a community here and engaging with others gives others a reason to visit your posts. It reminds me of the my early days when I had to deal with RC problems...just power up more Hive or earn more HP from your activities on the chain.

Yeah, but those RC issues are mostly fixed, as new accounts get some RC delegated to them... But even without that, as you said, just power up a few HP and you are good to go... That HP will not be wasted, you will use it to support others... etc... It's logical and it's common sense...

But truly, in reality, Hive is not difficult, you just need to repeat some unique routines for a long time. The problem is the time that's required. Time can be excruciatingly painful and because it requires time to cut, that's why the average user would think it's difficult

If you look at HIVE as any other social network, isn't it the same on other networks too? You say time, how much time do people spend on X, IG, or FB? Isn't that "too much"? Or too little? πŸ˜ƒ

Today I am also telling my friends about this platform and some friends are saying that they will definitely join it after some time and this is my attempt to explain things easily.

You say only... It's a social media network with cool people... If they join, great... if not, they are missing... :)

This seems like common sense and I think it would work. However, most new people when they join a platform they expect to find the rules for using it. That's how things work in Web 2, at least. You can imagine their surprise when they come to Hive and don't generally find them, unless they ask. And usually there are a couple of untold rules or guidelines maybe they'll learn in time, maybe not.

However, most new people when they join a platform they expect to find the rules for using it. That's how things work in Web 2, at least.

Did you read TOS on FB or X? πŸ˜ƒ I didn't... πŸ˜‚

Jokes aside... yes, there are untold rules, but those rules are still "common sense" rules... Not some rocket science...

No, but when they were at the beginning, I read the FAQs or whatever they had. And now, I'm sure they have some tooltips or whatever.

Thank you for your commitment to Hive and congratulations on earning the Hive Power Up Month badge @ph1102! We hope you continue to enjoy being part of our community.

Being a new person here is challenging. There are multiple layers when introducing new people to HIVE and there are also expectations from all around where it's actually not that different from professional IRL life but the thing here, IMO it all comes down to why are they here and why do they want to be here? If it's just a hobby, I am sure being rewarded or not, they won't have a problem, they are more than just happy to get more exposure of their work and another place to share their work.

I think the main challenge has always been wording around here. Like we have the word "power up" but the interface is actually say things like "stake". There are many inconsistencies in wording that cause people to get confused of this place. So when you say " you have to power up" but the button isn't there with the word " power up" people get confused. Mind you, not everyone is tech savvy and that's how I learned when guiding new people transitioning from other space to this space hehe

I truly don't think it's more challenging to start at Hive than to start on YT or X... When you know 0 people, it's hard on ANY platform... but... the answer lies in this...

IMO it all comes down to why are they here and why do they want to be here?

If you are here to enjoy it as a social network, you will not have any issues at all... or as you said, like a hobby to spread the word about what you are doing... But, we both know when it gets "overcomplicated"... When you want to get big upvotes, when you "demand" more attention to your posts, when you want to get hundreds of bucks in the first week, etc.

I do agree about wording and those specific things... there should be a better U/X experience and easier understanding... But, IMO, those are just small tweaks that can be solved... Btw. I like what you did on your event, changing the wording about "earning on HIVE"... πŸ˜‰

I was trying to find the comment about the timezone on your shows. In my place it would be at around 1 AM 🀣 I guess I need to go back to either waking up that early or going to be around that time πŸ˜„

I mean, shouldn't certain behavior be obvious and NATURAL? In the end, this is a social media network!

Unfortunately, we see this everywhere in life, what is deemed obvious to some is alien to others. A lot of people just see Hive as a means to make money by any means necessary. Hopefully, Hive can continue to foster the true spirit of 'social media' and truly shine for what it is. We continue to move in the right direction, it may be at !SLOTH speed sometimes but we'll get there! Some great tips there, as obvious as they may be!

Unfortunately, we see this everywhere in life, what is deemed obvious to some is alien to others.

I don't know... Sometimes it does look like people are getting more and more brainwashed and DON'T want to think... Are we going backward in the evolution cycle? Are we getting more stupid every day as humans?

Thanks for the shout out man, you hit the nail on the head with the points you made too. This summed it up nicely:

Appreciate them, communicate with them... You don't want to CHEAT your friends, you don't want to waste others' time...

Hopefully the new people landing here during this cycle will heed posts like this and grow and add value to Hive.

It would be nice to see new people coming and asking questions about communities, initiatives, and events, and not about "how to earn big bucks fast!" πŸ˜ƒ
