Now it’s true – we have spent quite a lot of time in different MG’s of late…but there’s a good reason for that. This year marks the brands centenary!
So how to celebrate this milestone? Well, it wouldn’t be us if we didn’t hop in and head off somewhere on a road trip! Lol…🤣
Before we share with you our full adventures – 900 miles in all – please join us as we take a closer look at this new hybrid.
The MG3 Hybrid+ might be compact, but it packs a punch with its hybrid powertrain, economical performance, and a fresh design that feels right at home on both city streets and open roads. And what better way to test its capabilities than by heading down to the MG Centenary celebrations at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where we immersed ourselves in a century of MG heritage while pushing this little hybrid to its limits.
The 3 has always been known for its affordability and fun driving dynamics, but the new Hybrid+ version takes things up a notch with a sleek new design that complements its efficient hybrid system.
The first thing that caught our eye was the updated exterior design – it may be compact, but its sporty lines and bold grille give it a confident road presence. The LED headlights are sharper, and the signature MG grille is more pronounced, adding to its modern appeal. The subtle hybrid badging and sleek alloy wheels complete the look, making it clear that this car is all about efficiency without sacrificing style.
Step inside, and the new 3 Hybrid+ welcomes you with a surprisingly spacious and tech-focused cabin. While it’s still a compact car, MG has made smart use of space, ensuring that passengers enjoy plenty of headroom and legroom. The seats are comfortable enough for long trips, which we put to the test on our journey to The Festival of Speed.
One of the highlights of the interior is the new infotainment system. It has an upgraded touchscreen interface, making it more intuitive and responsive. The system comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ensuring you stay connected and entertained throughout your drive. We found the cabin to be well-insulated from road noise, creating a peaceful atmosphere even when we were cruising on the motorway.
The heart of the MG3 Hybrid+ lies in its hybrid powertrain, which combines a small but punchy 1.5 litre, 4 cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor. Together, they deliver smooth, efficient performance that makes it a perfect option for both urban commutes and long road trips. While that might not sound like much in the grand scheme of things, this car is lightweight and responsive, making it feel peppy and fun to drive. The hybrid system is designed to assist with acceleration and provide power when needed, reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
What we loved most about the hybrid setup was how seamlessly the electric motor worked with the petrol engine. Whether we were navigating city streets or accelerating onto the motorway, it felt smooth and responsive, with the electric motor kicking in to boost power when needed.
One of the main advantages of the MG3 Hybrid+ is its impressive fuel efficiency. On our road trip to Goodwood, we managed to get up to 67 miles per gallon, even with a mix of city driving, country roads, and motorway cruising. This level of efficiency made the journey not only more affordable but also more eco-friendly, which is something we appreciate as we see more hybrids and EVs taking centre stage in the automotive industry.
The suspension is tuned for comfort, smoothing out bumps and potholes, which made the journey comfortable even on less-than-perfect roads. When we hit the motorway, it felt stable and confident, with plenty of power for overtaking when needed.
After spending time so much time in this new Supermini, it’s clear that this hybrid is more than just a fuel-efficient option. It’s a car that combines affordability, practicality, and fun driving dynamics in one package. Whether you’re commuting through the city or taking it on a longer journey like we did, it offers a comfortable, engaging, and efficient ride.
For those who are looking for a hybrid that doesn’t break the bank but still offers plenty of modern features, the MG3 Hybrid+ is definitely worth considering. With MG’s century-long heritage behind it, this car is a testament to the brand’s commitment to evolving with the times while staying true to its roots.
Thank you all, and enjoy!
Annabelle 😊
