NFS Most Wanted but you can't look in front

in #hive-140217yesterday

Hello and Welcome back to my blog!

This was a crazy idea. I love to see what's going on behind me while I am driving a car and being chased by police. You can do that by pressing a button in NFS Most Wanted. You will see them bumping into other cars, destroying their own cars forming roadblocks and doing crazy stunts. But the issue with that is you don't know where you are going. Sure, there is a rear-view mirror but it is not fun.

That's why I decided to take on this crazy challenge and see how long I could drive without looking at the road in front. This really messes up your mind. Left becomes right and right becomes left when steering and it takes some time for the brain to adjust to this change. One of the hardest things for the brain to do is 'unlearn' something. So, you will see me constantly bumping into the sides of the roads not driving fast enough and taking bad turns.

One of the worst things is you have no idea when is the next roadblock coming up. Sometimes these roadblocks have a spike stripe which can end your pursuit instantly. But these spike roadblocks don't show up until Heat level 4. I was lucky enough to miss all of those in this chase.

There were some funny moments too in this chase. I recorded the video for my YouTube channel and just uploaded it. Sorry for the annoying occasional freezes (not sure what is causing that). I would appreciate it if you could like the video and subscribe to the YouTube channel. Here is the complete chase. Enjoy!

I was driving in Free Roam at first and then a police car saw me. I was just at Heat 2 which quickly changed to Heat 3. But when the heat level changes in this game sometimes the old cars give up on the chase for the new police cars to get on the chase. This creates a good opportunity for cooldown. Even though I didn't mean to cool down, I still did. The cooldown meter fills quickly while you drive.

I wasn't happy with how quickly the police went off so I kept driving and once again they were after my tail. It starts getting better after Heat 3. Once heat 3 is over then the real challenge starts. As I already told you, Heat 4 is where the spikes appear and if you are not careful (which I was not) you can just run over them and it will burst all your tires ending the pursuit right there.

My strategy for avoiding those was paying attention to the radio chatter, sometimes they tell if a roadblock is coming. But that is not consistent and they will only announce that you missed the roadblock after you have dodged it. A better way to avoid the spikes was to always be on wide-open highways and drive close to the edge of the road. Most of the time the spikes appear in the centre of the road. Sometimes they are on the sides but only when the roads are narrow. You can see an example in the above screenshot. I was lucky to be driving on the right of the road.

Heat 4 is still manageable with good luck and some tricks but once you hit heat 5 it becomes really tough. Chevrolet Corvette Federal Cruisers are heavy and powerful vehicles. They will try to go in front of you and apply breaks while the others will try to pin you from behind. Making it tough to move.

That's exactly how they trapped me. Some of it was my fault for going into the Golf course where you get bad traction. In any case, I was about to get caught. There was no way I could escape these without seeing the HUD where you can see the map and the number of cop cars after you. If you are close to a pursuit breaker or not. I wish there was a way to enable HUD while in this camera mode. Maybe there is a mod which can do that... I will try to find one.

Until the next chase...

I remember those moments when I played this NFS MW, in fact I got to compete with other friends before with their cars to the maximum, we made totally impressive races.

I can already see how fun it would have been.

Man, used to play this game almost all day at my friend's house. (I didn't have a PC back then)

Thanks for reminding me of those lovely memories. I even used to ditch coaching classes to play this one and GTA: Vice City.

This kind of reminded me of playing the games from the Asphalt series but the chasing scenes and the way you get surrounded by police cars are just on another level.

The police chases are well done in this game.

Loved the chasing scenes in Most Wanted. I wasn't a big fan of NFS but played the hell out of most wanted on the Wii! I couldn't imagine not seeing what is going on in front of you! Not a challenge for me I'd say!
