If there's one thing I've learnt from my dad ever since I started traveling by myself, it is to always hold extra cash. Whenever I'm about to travel to anywhere and my dad is the one sponsoring that trip, he would always make sure to give me money that is a bit higher than my initial transport fare, and the reason he does this is just in case I encounter any form of trouble on my way, I will be able to get out of it with the extra cash I have on me.
Luckily for me, I took that mentality with me to school, and during my first year here when I was looking for love and went on dates, I had few occasions where those extra cash came in handy and saved me from embarrassments.
The first scenerio was when I had gone on this walk date with this course mate of mine. Because it was my first walk date, I had thought I wouldn't spend any money, but somehow my date's slippers had got damaged and luckily for me, I had some cash on me and had told her not to worry about it, because I had it covered.
The second time I was grateful I had extra cash on me was during another date, when this friend of mine was stopped at my school gate because the security officer there felt her top was too revealing, which it wasn't.
But due to the fact that I was a shy guy then and couldn't challenge him, I had asked her to turn back with me, before getting the idea to get into the school transport bus, a bus I knew would not get searched by the school security.
We both had gotten into that bus, and after we got passed the front gate, we had gotten down and continued with our date.
Funny enough, everytime I think about that scenario, I ask myself what would have happened if I didn't go out with that extra cash? Would that have been an embarrassing moment for me? Because first impressions matters a lot and the last thing I wanted my date to feel was that I was so broke that I couldn't afford a bus ticket or money for her to get her slippers fixed.
Well these, amongst many other scenerios are why I always make sure to go out with cash whenever I'm about going out.
