Beyond the Heart

There's a saying that when you fall in love with your heart, remember to take your brains along.

Back in the day, especially over here in my country, divorce wasn't really a thing...it was something that was hugely frowned upon by both men and women, so people rarely divorced back then. The moment you get married, it was for better for worse, until death you part.

But that was back in the day, nowadays, it's a completely different story. People get divorced these days in marriages faster than boyfriends and girlfriends break up in relationships. And at first it was due to them being unhappy in the marriage and wanting to leave before they up getting hurt or having some sort of mental breakdown...but soon enough, it turned into something else, something a lot more lucrative, it turned into a business.

People would knowingly get married to someone wealthy, not because they love that person, but because they plan on getting a divorce in the nearest future and moving away with more than half of their partners networth. Sadly, in the eyes of the law, this is legal and it only requires two things, getting the right person and patience.

Countless times I've read stories of people whose lives got ruined just because they decided to get married and their partner woke up one morning and said they were no longer interested in the marriage.

One time, I remember reading the story of a Ghanaian footballer (if I'm not mistaken), who lost everything he owned to his wife after their divorce. And sadly, I heard he never got back on his feet even till this day.

Funny enough, I've never really understood the justice system and while it seems to be in huge favor of the female gender...now I might be wrong, because I obviously haven't been through a divorce before and I haven't really done any research on it, but most times when the topic on divorce comes up, it's always the men getting ripped off.

Things like this always sends shivers down my spine whenever I think of the possibility of me losing all I've ever worked for just because the woman I call my wife wakes up one morning and decides that she no longer finds me attractive and wants an end to our marriage.

And this is why I'm a huge supporter of having prenuptial agreements, irrespective of who's the rich person in the marriage (be it the man or the woman). Signing a prenup is very essential because it helps people think straight and not have their thoughts clouded whenever they think of the amount of money they will get if they decide to file for divorce.

Because sometimes, even when you don't want to go through with the divorce, when you think of the things you will get, you get motivated to see the entire thing through, to end the marriage.

So yeah, if you ask me, love is never enough.
