My Shitty Situation

in #hive-15385011 days ago

Shit happens in life and most times, some of those shitty stuff ends up shaping us and affects how we live our lives. For some people, those shitty stuff ends up making them become a better person and do good things, while for others, it's the complete opposite.

And that is why in movies, the villain always has a crazy childhood story that made them the monsters that they are...some of it can be them just making excuses for their shitty behaviour (spiderman's uncle was killed but that didn't turn him to a villain), while some can't be helped because they truly had the worse kind of childhood that you can ever imagine.

Last night, one of my neighbours had knocked on my door some time around 11pm and asked if I would like her to give me a plate of rice that she had just finished cooking. It was a surprise for me because for one, it was already late at night and secondly, I didn't ask her for anything. She just of her own volition, thought about me, left her room to go knock on mine and offered me free food.

It was a nice gesture, one that I appreciated and had thanked her for it. And later this morning when I went to return her plate, I had jokingly told her that she saved my life last night, and she had laughed and said that I saved her life first.

Confused by what she said, I had asked her how I saved her life, and that was when she reminded me about something that I had done for her about a month ago.

About a month ago, some time around 9pm, she was on her way back from work while I was on my way going downstairs to go buy something, when we met at the staircase. We both greeted each other but then I noticed how weak her voice was, so I had stopped her and asked her if everything was alright, to which she said no that was ill.

I asked her if she had taken some drugs but she said no because it wasn't the end of the month yet and she doesn't have any money with her until she gets paid. I didn't have much money with me then but had told her that I will see what I can do to help before continuing my journey to my destination.

But while I was at that shop, I couldn't get my mind off this lady and this was solely for one reason. You see, my mom had passed away (no condolences please) after some brief illness some four years ago and ever since then, whenever any of my friends complain to me about feeling ill, I always make sure I do my best to see that they're well taken care of to treat that illness.

So my mom's death was my shitty situation, and somehow that had shaped me into this man who always makes sure to be there for his friends whenever they're ill because experience has taught me that no sickness is small sickness.

Immediately I went back upstairs that night, I had taken the last money I had on me and gave it to that lady to go get some drugs, which she did that same night. Few days later I had seen her on her way back from work, looking all strong and healthy and she had thanked me for helping her to get those drugs.

To her, I probably did what I did either because I liked her or because I'm a good person, but to me, I did it because I never want to lose anyone ever again...at least not yet.
