I woke up this morning feeling so cold, the whole environment has changed, everywhere getting intense with the harmattan; a sign that I am not in the city but in the village. I arrived at my hometown last night and it was with joy to see my family again after 12 months. I met the whole surrounding sparkling clean, all thanks to my younger siblings and cousins who arrived from school few days ago to clean everywhere.
Christmas has begun already, and we are celebrating with thanksgiving to the Almighty and for Jesus Christ being the reason for the season. The whole house had been expecting us yesterday because I was the one bringing the foodstuff as there was nothing at home. The foodstuff we bought was the money contributed by my sisters and me.
We didn't want to just come home without enjoying ourselves, and since Grandma has gone to rest, we are now responsible for the management of the home, ensuring everything goes as planned. When we arrived, I could tell they were expecting us because everyone gathered outside and when they saw us, they ran to hug us, but I was already tired to start going through the long greeting.
My plan is for everyone to enjoy themselves during this celebration, and with that, this morning, I instructed the younger ones to start by taking care of the pepper and grinding them so we can begin the proper preparations as tomorrow is Christmas. We intend to cook Jollof rice and I will be the one to cook it. I feel excited doing this and I hope to make it a nice one.
I don't know if we would be expecting more people home, but if so, there is food to go around and still have for my dad to last him for the next 6 months.
I have made preparations for chickens for Christmas and New Year, and aside from that, we have a goat to kill. My brother and cousin have gone to bring home the goat because I was told it went out yesterday; perhaps the poor goat had looked into the future to know its fate 😃 but I'm less concerned because I want to enjoy myself. Goat meat is always delicious 😋
Someone asked me the other day if I had bought Christmas and New Year's clothes, but the truth is, I never had in mind to buy any new outfits. I just want to use the ones at home, some of them haven't been worn more than once, so I would rock those ones. One of them is the asoebi I wore for my friend's wedding last Saturday, that is what I would be using for New Year because no one has seen it on me in my village, only that there would be no pictures 😄
Finally, I plan to do my birthday photoshoot here. My brother is a photographer and graphics designer, and I'm assured of a quality work. My birthday is in January, and I wouldn't want to rush things by the time I return to my place, so I want to do it now and get done with it. These are all my plans for Christmas in my hometown.
