The Apartment Has Been Increased!!!

I woke up this morning to the challenging news and information that all apartments in the building had been increased including my aunt's. This has made her feel troubled since then because she isn't working, and where does she get such an amount for her rent from when the initial rent was all contributed and supported for her yearly? It feels the whole responsibility is kind of overwhelming for her siblings. I and my siblings had to arrange her rent for this year and now, waking up to something like this feels worrying.

I teased my big sister about it and told her to start saving more money to pay the new rent next year, but she quickly snapped me out of it and said, "You better tell her to go look for a cheaper apartment because I am not doing this."

Sincerely, I understand my sister, especially when my aunt hasn't been working since she moved in here three years ago, and it's kind of a hard one thinking of paying someone's rent every year because of the condition. There was an additional #150,000 ($94) to the initial rent fee of #250,000 ($156) making the new one #400,000 ($250) now.

That's a lot, but do we have a choice when these houseowners enjoy doing whatever they like? They own their homes, so whoever is up for it should go for it; that's what they'd say without thinking of someone's financial condition. I wouldn't blame them though!

It's been 15 days now since the landlord came here to make an announcement that the whole rooms need a renovation and every occupant should get ready as the workers might come anytime and up till now, no one has come and it's giving my aunt a hard time cluttering her stuff everywhere in the house. She has cleared everything in the sitting room except for this old television that has been in existence for over 20 years.

The TV only had a channel working before, and to get the station cleared, one would have to keep rotating the antenna, and sometimes, we have to find something to keep it hanging up in the air to be stationed, but now, it has stopped working. My aunt refused to get a new one when she had the money. All her excuse was that she doesn't watch TV and no one comes to visit her. Thank God that my phone was always keeping me company whenever I visited her as everywhere is always boring and unlively.

We are still waiting for the workers to come to fix the new pop and paint the whole room; hoping they arrive this week because we will be travelling in a few days, and we wouldn't like for someone to start blaming us. Well, we don't know if my aunt would still continue living in this apartment or find one that is cheaper before August next year because the truth is, I can't commit to contributing or supporting such a huge amount of rent yearly.

This is really exhortation. Imagine increasing rent from 250,000 to 400,000. Kai, these landlords can be so heartless. I think your sister is right. A house with a cheaper rent will do for now. But is there even a cheap house now?

As in, houses are now so expensive 😫 landlords making them excessively overwhelming for tenants. So unfair.

Landlords only think about how to make more money and they don't consider how we will manage the extra money they increase as rent. I think in this case all of us are kind of helpless.

You are right. Once we don't have our own houses, we are helpless

In the city where I live the rents are also over 200 dollars and it is a simple town, in other cities it is much more expensive, but buying and maintaining a house costs a lot too, so I understand why it is so expensive. It really is very difficult when you don't have your own house, I lived that nightmare for years, thank God then I was able to buy my house.
I hope your aunt can find a place that fits your budget.
Best regards.

So difficult when you don't have your own home...the peace that comes with owning your own place with no one coming to disturb you of paying an exorbitant rent fee. I'm happy for you.
Thank you for such a heartwarming comment on my post. I appreciate it, @syllem ❤️
