Looking through the question for this edition, I will say I am not currently working full time at my place of work but would in the future. I am a serving corper presently and in a few months, the service year will come to an end making me start hunting for a full-time job. But as the case may be, I will say some things that I enjoy at my place of work.
I started working fully as a teacher in January and it has been an amazing one which I have enjoyed so far but cannot be compared to my last workplace where I taught at a private school for 3 years with no issue, the boss being a nice and considerate person and one I have always prayed to encounter someone like her wherever I may work.
I teach in a public school and one of the benefits that I enjoy here is the freedom to leave whenever you want to without being stopped or asked why you are leaving at such an early hour. When I first stepped into this school to submit my posting letter, I was asked if I was the type that would be committed and devoted to the school and not practising on and off. I assured them to be of my best behaviour and to be committed. Of course, I stood to my promise to the school but it didn't stop me from leaving when I wanted to.
According to the school, once you arrive at the school early, write your name in the attendance register and perform your duty by teaching your class, then you are free to leave after then. The school closes by 2 pm from Monday to Friday and I only teach on Mondays to Wednesdays. But on these days, once I am done teaching the class and have completed my lesson notes, I can leave even before the normal closing time which sometimes, I leave around 12 to 1 pm with no one querying me.
Another benefit is the understanding management. The school doesn't deprive us when we take permission for not coming to school as long as you inform them before the day or send a message via WhatsApp or SMS of your absence from work and your reasons. They won't go ahead pokenosing once you give a good reason. Though I don't like taking an excuse unless there is a need to which I don't hesitate to give notice before the day to make them aware. This, I have done twice since I got to this school. Knowing that one can get permission and you won't be refused is a benefit that makes the school nice.
The last benefit is having your free time once you are done teaching. Public school is not like private school where you are used till the last drop is taken from you. In public/government schools, teachers are only assigned to a subject and in most cases, two and once you have done your work, you have got the rest of the day to yourself without being scared of the school management.
This made me remember the first teaching job I got, the woman didn't give me a breathing space. She enjoyed seeing me standing all day shouting and screaming my lungs out all in the name of controlling the little kids, all because of 12,000 naira 😂 It was like being used as a maid.
So far, I enjoy all these benefits at my place of work and once my service ends, I leave for a greener pasture 😀 because my one-year assignment being sent to such a town would end too.

Thanks for your time reading. Looking forward to your interaction.
