Vidura Niti is a section of the Mahabharata that contains the advice of Vidura, a wise and noble character in the epic. It is a collection of teachings on how to live a good life and achieve success. Vidura Niti is a conversation between Vidura and King Dhritarashtra. It is a discourse on dharma, polity, and ethical values. It provides advice on how to lead a good life and achieve success. It covers topics such as relationships, human welfare, and how to understand people. There are many learning that we can easily implement in our life. One of the best teaching that my Dad always used to say is :
अर्थागमो नित्यमरोगिता च, प्रिया च भार्या प्रियवादिनी च|
वश्यस्य पुत्रो Sर्थकरी च विद्या,षड् जीवलोकस्य सुखानि राजन्||
Arthaagamo nityamarogitaa cha.
Priyaa Cha Bhaaryaa Priyavaadinee cha.
Vashyasya putrorthakaree cha visyaa.
Shad jeevalokasya sukhaani raajan.
Arthaagamo = Artha + aagamo.
Artha = wealth.
Aagamo = arrival.
nityamarogitaa = Nityam + arogitaa.
Nityam = always.
Arogitaa = healthiness.
Priyaa = beloved.
Bhaaryaa = wife.
Priyavaadinee = speaking kindly.
Cha = and.
Vashyasya = obedient.
putrorthakaree = Putro + arthakaree,
Putro = the Son.
Arthakaree = profitable.
Vidyaa = Knowledge.
Shad = six.
Jeevalokasya = the Earrh's
Sukhaani = happiness .
Raajan = O king.
O King ! There are six means of enjoying a happy lifestyle in this World , namely :
(i) regular source of income,
(ii) always having good health
(iii) a loving wife
(iv) a soft speaking wife
(v) an obedient son, and
(vi) knowledge or expertise in a profession which yields regular income.
Having supportive friends and family is consistently cited as a major contributor to happiness. A person who has all these 6 things are the most happiest person. Income, health and partner always contribute to the happiness. Without these there is always anxiety and tension prevails in life.
