the forbidden relationship
that has melted my immature heart and has set it abode ablaze
The dangerous it becomes the more I want it
The more the fierceness the more I long for it
Despite the thorns on the way I seem to have an easy passage
The warnings of the old falls on the dry part of my ears
And my mother commands feel like greetings to me.
What really is this that I want so much
Is it the infant love that has taken over my weak heart?
Or the friendship which has been put on hold?
Or my relationship that has become a taboo?
Or what?
Why has my heart gone numb?
Why do I see it as a do or die affair?
What really is my loss?
Or do I stand a chance to gain?
Why am I being pulled back?
Is that path really dangerous?
Or are there sweetnesses that they don't want me to discover?
Or what?
Oh, my little heart is pounding heavily
I heard a teen's journey can be heroic
But I am not the hero of my own
I am been deprived of all that my heart wants
And only given what they think soothes me
I am been lectured severally
Been checked upon every minute just like a sleeping baby
Why is it so?
Why is my car driven by another being while I become the passenger?
Why am I not given the full control of my life?
Why am I not free?
A teen's life is filled with divers rhetorical questions, and it is because of the way they are been treated or let me say cared for but many teens mistake it for wickedness or being too strict. A teen's life most times is crazy, stressful, uncomfortable and confusing, there's a force behind every teen's decision and this include making decisions that are not healthy but that's just the real deal for them, nothing said again by anyone can manipulate what they've already believed.
A teen's life is the craziest when they begin to feel emotions, they become more obsessed and even rebellious to anyone who stands against them or what they want.
This poem focuses more on the teen's emotions, their thoughts, behaviour, feelings and reactions when they begin to feel attracted to the opposite sex.
In stanza two of the above poem, we can see the teen's heart in total concussion about her emotions, they're confused about their feelings especially if the adults seem to be of their nerves, Yes that's how weak, light, and flexible a teen's heart can be.
Even when their questions are being answered by the adults, it still seems rhetorical to them not because they can't understand the adults warning but because their emotions has be-cloud their sense of reasoning and understanding.
