Never used a blender for this (and I will take a notice, tho I would afraid doing this: my guess it will go strictly against the instructions ). I think the best option would go and buy a pack of a ready-made ground coffee ☘️ At least once I found myself in a situation when my 1st Siemens electric grinder (it was doing the job since 1998! maybe even earlier), I momentarily ordered a new one, same model. Of course, I easily can imagine when it is not an option, be it lack of money or location where you simply dont have access to the market goods. Just imagine that you were teleported back to XIX century and found yourself with a pack of beans and without electricity... in such circumstances your favourite electric grinder really would be out of hand. 😳

So, speaking about my personal experience: once I visited my friend who always obtain ground coffee, but she was presented a pack of beans as a birthday gift exactly on that day, there was a big company, all claimed they wanted to test the gift - and there was no electric grinder in the house at all. But, my friend is very fond of vintage stuff, she visited Holland many times and paid a proper attention to the local flea markets - she have got a lot of cool stuff there, including this traditional manual grinder. This one wasnt too old, but it is exactly the same model, as they used in XIX century.

So, I had a fat chance to practice in using this gadget. Also note: I had to grind beans for a big company, not for a self doze. Of course, I don't remember in details how that coffee have tasted, but here's what I remember for sure: the coffee grinder provided a very coarse grind, delivering grains of 0.6-1 mm, but the grinding speed was even worse. I turned the handle on and on and ground for 20-30 minutes (it did not feel like fun!), and it was then that doubts took root in my mind, that manual grinding is no good. Yes, perhaps it was a great option a hundred years ago, when people had a different pace of life, but not now. Said friend told me about another personal case - this is not my experience, but I think it is worth retelling here for everyone.

A situation may happen in your life (nuclear war? hurricane? or a trivial 3-day emergency blackout), when you cannot use your electric coffee grinder, and a manual coffee grinder was not purchased in advance. Given the beans and the desire to drink coffee no matter what - what will you do? what can be done? My friend in this situation used a rolling pin. Having laid the beans out on the table, she covered them with a cloth and rolled a rolling pin over beans getting coarsely ground coffee quite quickly. I can't say how much effort it took her (it can be quite subjective)... So a rolling pin is a very useful and multifunctional item that definitely should be kept in every household!

I wish you had a great coffee everyday, my dear friends 😍

What a nice vintage coffee grinder. How nice of you that you made to try this manually operated grinder.

Grazie! I do love vintage stuff, both from the visual side, and operating it too. But on the daily basis, I prefer to operate my electrical grinder 😎 More efficient, less time consuming, simple as that. Wish a delicious coffee in your cup. ☘️ !PIZZA

thank you😊

What a beautiful photo of a beautiful manual coffee grinder. Love it. I guess it's not fun for me either, having to grind coffee beans for half an hour, but not having coffee is far less fun.

The rolling pin is genius 😄

The rolling pin is genius 😄

...manual production, with a lot of spirit / soul investments, as advertising likes to put it, hehe. But, my experience proved: such grind is very coarse (with all the consequences), !LOL

I guess so. I tried to use a mortar and pestle once and it was a nightmare. My friend was sure it wouldn't taste like garlic 😏 We got coarse coffee "powder" and garlicky coffee 🤢

Wait... you used mortar for grinding coffee?.. oh my. I can imagine... the situation like this reminds me a picture I once saw and could never forget: old Indian women grinding flour using flat stones :)

Ha! 10 minutes of googling and I found it. this:

Oh my! That's amazing. Look at their hairstyles. Well, they have enough time to let their hair grow while they grind all that wheat 😮

They look like dolls in a dresser--or parts in a human machine. What a job and what a photo!

I used to run an origami company.
But it folded.

A rolling pin is a good option, I'll keep it in mind when I don't have a coffee grinder at hand. A very good idea that you share with us today.

Excellent day.

Its not that good as a choice, but... its a proven emergency solution :P
lets share a juicy !PIZZA - and praise the #learningcurve! 😃

Hello. I think that each technique has its charm.
Coffee beans have their varieties.
The blender has gotten me out of trouble twice. Although its function is certainly not to grind coffee.
I have never had a manual grinder, but I know that some are slow and require effort.
And yes. The ideal is to have ground coffee and beans at home... so that you don't get up and end up without coffee if the electric grinder doesn't turn on...
Regards, @qwerrie

A little emergency supply of ground coffee would be a wise idea, agree.
Of course, one may eliminate personal grinding at all and rely on the ground coffee from a shop totally... but that would be a 'second grade', figuratively speaking, one will steal a good chunk of fun from himself.
Manual grinders are different, thats for sure. I tried only this certain model, and it is very very dated. I know I should update my experience with more up-to-date models - maybe my experience will change dramatically to better? It, just, did not happened yet, so theres a plenty room for further explorations. Which is a good thing. Have a Hive !PIZZA from me, dear friend, and best wishes. 🐈

Yes. Freshly ground coffee is priceless.
Happy weekend.

This grinder surely looks vintage. If I don’t have the option to get my grinders I would be extremely sad. I can imagine trying to crush the beans with some sort of hammer… but this means that I can simply lose my time. 😁

Such "mill-type" grinder is way better than a hammer... but I keep no illusions it is a thousand light years behind your high-tech Timemore C2. I envy you (well, in a good way!) 😛 lets share some Hive !PIZZA 🍕🍕🍕

This time more grinder is really the best possible option for that given price!

I had never thought of using a rolling pin, which I will keep in mind when grinding coffee, as a contingency plan.

I loved that old mill, ufff it's a rel😍😍😍
