Every morning when the sun peek through my curtains, cast a warm glow across my room. I wake up with some familiar scent of earth and greenery. Instantly I feel fresh and happy. It’s just another day around my mom’s garden.
As I got out of my bed and went to the balcony, I was welcomed by a symphony of birds chirping and the gentle rustle of leaves in the breeze. Then the scenario that really captivates me is the sight of my mother, kneeling in front of her beloved plants. Her hands in the soil and a very radiant smile on her face. I watch in awe as she takes care of her plants with such unwavering dedication and affection towards them. Each plant in her garden is tended to with utmost love. These plants were more like a cherished friend of my mother’s. She really takes great pride in growing our foods. From green coriander to juicy tomatoes , every bite is a testament of her hard work and devotion.
As I walk to her, she starts talking to me. She always says how it is so important for us to nurture the mother earth and respect its kindness that it offers for us. To my mother gardening is not just a hobby but it is a way of life. More like a relation between human and nature. Through my mother’s eyes, I see the world in a whole different way. I see why gardening is more than just a hobby to her and how it is not just about planting seeds and watching them grow but it is more of a deep connection with earth and its different inhabitants.
Then I see the harvest of my mom’s labour as my mother starts to fill her basket full of fresh veggies and many kinds of flowers to decorate the house. My mom’s garden is more than a source of food and beauty but it is also home to many wildlife. As I see bees buzzing flowers to flowers and butterflies flit from plants to plants. At this point this garden looks like a microcosm of the natural world. Through her hard work she has actually created a sanctuary for both plants and animals.
Ever since I can remember, my mom has been really fond of different kinds of plants. Every plant in her garden, she collected them herself. Everyday in the early morning and around afternoon she would spend her time in this garden. There’s so many types of plants like flowers, fruits and vegetables. She takes care of each of them as required. When finally she sees her plants growing and being fruitful; you can see the sheer amount of happiness and satisfaction right in her face. It works like some sort of therapy for her.
I think all of us should at least plant one or two trees even if it is just to keep by our windows. It surely heals something inside you. And growing vegetables or fruits in your own garden definitely has a lot of benefits. As you get totally fresh vegetables and fruits, it also saves up your costs for it.
As I look over my mom’s garden, I realise how important this garden is. In a world full of environmental destruction, this is a little ray of hope. A perfect example of what can be achieved if we work wholeheartedly in harmony with nature. And so as the sun keeps going upwards I thank my mother for this garden and for all the beautiful things we get to experience because of it.
Have a good day!!!
